Even without dicounts you would struggle to a speaker set of this quality for less!, yamaha do do another set at richer sounds but its not as nice and a few off reviews for it, i only found a coupleo f reviews for this but they all rave.

Can this be hooked straight up to a DVD/Blu-ray player or PS3? Or do you need an amp?

you need an amp

Yeah amp required unless your DVD/BD Player has Spring Clips for 5 speakers and a Sub Plug.

Could you post a bigger picture? I can't quite make it out...

How much would an amp cost? Got ps3, sky hd and Samsung ue40b6000 in living room. Wouldn't mind surround sound to top the set off. Anyone got any recommendations?
Thanks

quite gutted after buying surround sound speakers and an amp, i connected it to a apple mac mini to create a home theater effect but the mac mini only outputs 5.1 on dvd only and not on regular downloaded movies and iTunes....unless i fork out another £30 for an external sound card. costs pile up when buying separate bits and bobs depending on situation. Yamaha make quite reasonable amps also, richer sounds are good on price.

aha, welcome to the world of apple....thats why i **** off apple...every clueless person raves about them but they sell old tech in pretty boxes and do everything in their power to stop you connecting anything non apple to it...try connecting an iphone 3g through an apple car stereo using an apple bluetooth box...even though they are iphone 3g compatible...good luck
i also cant use my iphone 3g on my win7 64bit pc as itunes doesnt recognise my iphone 3g, which lock up my pc...seems a common prob but apple dont care...prob occured after the last iphone update...thanks apple...in fact if you want help you have to PAY apple to sort probs THEY have caused....I wont be buying the ipad....mr apple can stick up his XXX.....this from an early adopter too, many early adopters are like me...the ipad will fail

Yasmo10:

Most amps can process stereo sound and output via all 5 speakers for a surround-like effect, have you given that a try?

true, i tried it but the sound isn't pristine unfortunately due to the fact AC-3 bitstream (5.1) doesn't output from the mac with programs such as iTunes or frontrow etc. there is another option which is to just play the sound visually through every speaker but that is hardly surround sound lol this is where a sound card would decode the the mac output for the amp to read. costs add up

lol, i used to rate mac, but recently i have been getting screwed by them, constantly updating...my i touch had to get updated so that it can just do the basic things. what they do is create a new update and practically destroy the older version so your forced to fork out money to update via their website. but i have to say once your updated its happy days and broke days at the same time lol
