I know that this is available at Richer for the same price with a longer warranty, but this is available with free delivery and may suit many better who aren’t near an RS store or cant be bothered travelling. I haven’t bought one but I’d imagine it will be sufficient for many folk at a great price. Banana plugs for the fronts is impressive at this price

Looks great to me... Had a yamaha for 20 years and still plays dd and dts and still sounds great
Anyone recommend some speakers for this? Might cancel my soundbar order, can't beat a proper setup
I wanted one of these from Richer Sounds but when I phoned up on Boxing Day morning, the first day of the sale, I was told that the store only had two in and they couldn't reserve them, it was first come first served. They are still being advertised online and in emails from Richer, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to get one as they are only selling them instore.

I'm sure there are better informed people than I to advise on speakers but in general I can confirm that the difference between a basic 5.1 set up and a soundbar is massive. I'd go for it.

I brought these recently:

Decent enough quality with active sub woofer.

Will knock the socks off just a sound bar.

Yeah I know, I have quad 5.1 system in one of the rooms, I have tried soundbars up to around £500 and been underwhelmed so far, even my Logitech 5.1 system is better, it just doesn't look too great in a living room setup.
Can I have some advice please. My brother was thinking to get a AVR system and I thought it will be a good idea to get him one for his birthday. Ideally I do not want to spend more than £300. I am not interested in a sound bar. I may be willing to split the cost with him for a Dolby Atmos system (there is an Onkyo for about £550), as I understood you get a different experience, but I do not know if will benefit of anything, my brother usually watches Freeview or movies from a hard/flash drive, so don't know if a Dolby Atmos will make a difference.

Any advice with these below, please. I am aware of the brands and to be honest I do not make much of a difference in between them, all have their positives and negatives and on the whole are great brands. I am more interested in the technical specifications of these below, THANKS A LOT:

I'm no expert but if you want to go the Dolby Atmos route you will need to buy a bigger speaker package with more speakers as you have ceilings speakers with Atmos.
Bought one of these with the NSP-41 speaker set, just waiting for it to be delivered. It doesn't do DTS-HD or Dolby Digital HD but I will mainly be watching Sky HD, Netflix and Amazon Prime so I just wanted an AV that supports 5.1 Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus which this does. Dolby Atmos seems overkill for me personally, not much content with what the wife and I watch and I can't have bigger speakers to bounce sound off the ceiling or install ceiling speakers in my house.

This is replacing my 14 year old Pioneer which is slowly breaking, one rear speaker doesn't work, DVD player doesn't work and the connections on the back work loose and sound cuts out. No HDMI on it obviously so this unit is basically an upgrade to get my 5.1 sound back.

Thanks, you're right, need 2 extra speakers for ceiling, but I was hoping he can use his, he has 2 at his expensive stereo, so should be decent quality. Don't know if these gave to be special, I've heard you can put them facing the ceiling, but have no clue to be honest:).

So it's useful for when you have X1 HDMI port on your TV and you need more?

Not it's main function, but this is absolutely one of the side benefits. Improving the sound is the main purpose.
