Has anyone tried one of these ? Tempted to get one to save space but no airplay or external sub making it more of a TV speaker replacement than a full surround sound setup

I got one for Christmas last year. It's great and with a lot of bass but don't expect miracles out of it.

Tempted !

great bit of kit i paid £199 ,look at all the reviews then buy one

No bluetooth or USB connectivity unfortunately

Can I connect my tv, freeview and bluray to this together?

I've got one of these and am well happy with it. Bought from Richer Sounds about a year ago.
Connected to my Sony TV via an optical cable. Works well, but seriously considering a subwoofer to go with it. Use the Sky remote to adjust volume.

If your TV has an optical digital audio output then you just connect that to the Yamaha - otherwise you will need to connect each component individually using optical or coaxial digital audio output. Really it just depends what outputs your kit has.

Looks a great deal, Cheers OP!

I don't mean this deal specifically, but aren't soundbars incredibly overpriced?

many are, yes. but some are quite a feat of engineering to pack all the electronics and decent-sounding speakers into a relatively small space.

the original concept was invented by Yamaha which used clever processing to generate surround sound from a front array of speakers. the idea has been copied, simplified and often ruined.

Fair points, I always liked the concept of soundbars. I know lots of people who can't be bothered to set-up a surround sound system. These would be perfect for them but they just seem so expensive to me in the main part. I've voted this deal hot as it's a good price compared to other retailers.

I have this soundbar. You its obviously not going to be as good as a true 5.1 system, but it's impressive for its size, and loud!
