Just come through on the VIP e-mail. Seems a lot of kit for £200 if you don't need highend.

The Yamaha YHT1810 provides ideally matched speakers and an AV receiver for a fantastic introduction to home cinema.

Home cinema sound made easy

Connect your TV, Blu-ray/DVD player and games console to the Yamaha YHT1810 and you're ready for the full cinema experience. With built-in Dolby and DTS digital processors, the YHT1810 fires out sound effects around the room for an uncanny sense of 'being there'. Sound is processed by192/24-bit Burr Brown DACs on each channel for powerful dynamics that'll keep you on the edge of your seat! Music is equally well looked after as the amp uses discrete (separate) components rather than an IC chip for a more detailed and nuanced sound.

Well connected
Four 3D-compatible HDMI sockets ensure the Yamaha YHT1810 is all set for linking up either 3D or conventional sources. It also allows 4K Ultra HD pass-through, ensuring it's fully equipped for the future of 4K TV. There's also support for an Audio Return Channel, letting you feed back the sound from your TV through the home cinema speakers with just one HDMI cable. In addition, a range of both digital and analogue inputs cater for other sources.

Feature-packed and easy to use
The Yamaha is really simple to use. The SCENE function automatically selects the ideal setting for the relevant input, whether you're watching films or listening to music. As this is a Yamaha, it has 17 different effects not available with other AV receivers. Another impressive feature is Compressed Music Enhancer, which improves the sound from MP3 sources such as computer audio or iPods, giving them enhanced detail at the top end and lower bass.

Sleek curved speakers
With an eye to enhancing the coolest of interiors, the satellite speakers have been designed to be unobtrusive. Slim enough to be wall mounted via their keyhole openings, they also benefit from a tapering rear panel and smooth edges. The centre speaker is a dedicated design with improved sensitivity and crisp dialogue and is also easily wall mounted. The subwoofer gives the bass a natural, powerful sound that avoids bass 'boom'.

For a quality home cinema system that doesn't sacrifice sound for good looks, the Yamaha YHT1810 brings it together with style.

Heated. Really great system for the money - bought one last time it hit this price (£199).

Links through to a price of £299, but the email says "Mention this email instore to qualify" for the £199 price. So presumably it's instore only at that price, and only if you 'mention this email'. No suggestion that you have to produce the email, but last time round that did seem to be necessary.
Heat as it is such a cheap way for someone to get going with surround sound kit. Doesn't seem like it has WiFi or even wired online facilities though. Not essential for many but could be a factor. Still a massive bargain.

are you sticking with the speakers which came with it? If so, what are they like please? I'm really tempted by this

I got this kit as a straight swap under extended guarantee (with three months to go from a five year purchase!) about nine months ago. It's a perfectly good as a starter set-up. Sound quality good throughout all speakers and a doddle to set up. I'd strongly suggest you also take the extended warranty out too as warranties go it's impressive.
I also bought this on offer last time am really pleased neighbours ain't, changed two front speakers for 100w ones I already had only for playing music through two channels just works better for me.
It's HEAT from me

Perfectly happy with them - and it's a large room with a very high ceiling.

so you're running in purely 2 channel now? Are your 100w speakers a vast improvement on the included yamahas?

sounds great. did you pair the speakers with a different AV receiver then? Did you buy stands for the rear speakers? or did you have some suitable furniture to place them on?

Stands for the rear speakers to go behind my sofa, I used it with a Yamaha RXV381 which I am gogin to upgrade soon to something more substantial but the speakers have been great, esp with a decent digital source.

Only run on two channels when booming tunes through Pc all other times it's set on 5.1. The speakers I changed are the same wattage jus to me sound better when turned right up but some times use other setting depends on how it sounds ( to me ). My twenty year old sonny 5.1 1000w died well fried it. Only had a small budget at the time & did a bit of research & went with this one & no regrets. Can't go wrong with 200 bar took a little time playing with the setting to get it to my liking.

I picked up 2 Boston Acoustic A23 cheap and could perhaps use those as the fronts. If they don't match well I will use them elsewhere.

Thing I'm reading about this amp is this HDCP 2.2 business. I've an Xbox One S and am now not sure where I stand.

Trail & error bud, the Yamaha speakers are OK & 100 watt jus my fronts sound better to me.
From what I've read I understand I Can't output from the Xbox One S using HDMI due to this reciever not being HDCP2.2 compliant.

can anyone tell me what the difference is between outputting sound from the xbox one s via optical vs hdmi please?

I cannot see why anyone would want to play stereo music mirrored through rear speakers in a pseudo 5.1 Dolby Pro Logic setup anyway. Dedicated multichannel music mixes from the likes of SACD/DVD-A/BD-A or multichannel FLAC obviously.
Bargain this is great sound too, worth it just for the reciever

Although it has 4k pass through I've read tonight that the Xbox one s has its 4k HDCP 2.2 content restricted so it won't appear on a non HDCP2.2 device which this yamaha isnt

Regarding the audio via optical though, are you sure theres no difference?

Further question on av receivers generally, is it easy to switch from multi channel to stereo using only 2 speakers? Eg if you go from playing a game in 5. 1 to watching Holly oaks, can you turn off three other speakers?

I find "all speaker surround" to be enjoyable sometimes depending on the source, etc. Problem with pseudo multichannel it usually creates an echo type effect, the rears can be underutilized a lot. It doesn't add to the experience.

Do you have a SACD player?
m8 even if you had a SACD player, tell me of the back catalogue of the great artists who released surround sound albums?!? hmm...
This will blow away 95% of soundbars

NiN, Depeche Mode, Dredg, Bjork are my favourites, admittedly there was not a lot released in multichannel, and particularly not a lot released by alternative artists but that is not the point...the point is who would want to listen to pseudo surround sound of anything stereo.

SACD is still the best way to listen to multichannel unless you have a receiver capable of multichannel FLAC or DSD or able to obtain the rips via a modded first gen PS3 of such and convert to such.
joshtbh1 h, 57 m ago

No but have kodi surely you can play them digitally?

Only if you know of a Kodi repository that can play SACD ISO files or convert SACD ISO into multichannel FLAC or DSD (.dsf) and also have a means for playing them with a Kodi repository/other android app or better still a PC capable of transcoding them to your receiver or direct receiver support.

i feel like it's a shame to not buy fully compatible stuff, but this is £200 and at the end of the day, am I really honestly going to notice the step up between non HD audio and HD audio?

Yes it is easy to turn off the other speakers. On AV Receivers inputs you can setup what audio codecs you want to use through their inputs, such as on mine my "TV" input happily decodes any DD 5.1 transmission as 5.1 and any stereo broadcast as Pro Logic II (we prefer hearing dialogue from the centre speaker)

without talking about content, surely Kodi can play back SACD files and pass them to the receiver to let that do the work?

sounds great, really need an AV receiver by the sounds of it. This Yamaha one looks OK but I would have preferred a Denon as I like Denon stuff and think they look nicer too . Although this is £199 for one with speakers!
