Really cheap. A great place to start getting into the discrete surround sound market.

I have got a silly question?!
How do you connect this to tv? Just hdmi and that is it?

Yes. You can use optical/coaxial too. More convenient to plug all your devices into the AV, and just have a single HDMI to the TV.

How does it do with music?

Quite tempted as a second setup for the mancave. Does it get decent review?

Does it do 4K passthrough?

Sort of doubting it does at the price.

Not really a problem now, but certainly might be in the not too distant future.

It's supported.

Is this future proof? I'm really not up with the technology in this area but I've got a 4k TV and blu ray player I'd like to run through this to my big floor speakers. The connections on my TV are hdmi (2.2, ARC, 10BIT, MHL), optical and RGB.. don't know which is best?
I was hoping to spend about half this amount but it seems this is the minimum I'll get anything decent for?

How much were your speakers? Just wondering.

I bought them nearly 20 years ago and only just took them out of storage, think they were a few hundred.

It should be fine. I expect it supports HDCP 2.2 but I haven't looked to be honest.

It's the AV 5 speakers and the sub-woofer.

A great set up for that price, nice find.

Edit: Before anyone asks, this won't pass through HDR.

It has 4K pass through and 3D for those wondering.

"Well connected
Four 3D-compatible HDMI sockets ensure the Yamaha YHT1810 is all set for linking up either 3D or conventional sources. It also allows 4K Ultra HD pass-through, ensuring it's fully equipped for the future of 4K TV. There's also support for an Audio Return Channel, letting you feed back the sound from your TV through the home cinema speakers with just one HDMI cable. In addition, a range of both digital and analogue inputs cater for other sources."

Arent they ask for the proof of the email?

Unlikely. They're always really good in richer sounds. Just mention you have joined the VIP club (I think its just give them you name, email and address) and they'll confirm the VIP deals

no DTS HD or Dolby True HD

If you want to play DTS HD MA and True HD, that's no problem. Just simply set your Blu-ray player to output uncompressed PCM. For all intents and purposes this produces exactly the same quality!

A great little starter setup.

This AV receiver provides advanced HDMI features including pass-through of 4K Ultra HD, which is gaining popularity. 4K Ultra HD refers to four times the resolution of a 1080p display. This receiver is capable of passing the 4K Ultra HD data from the source to the monitor, for image clarity far beyond present standards.

*This model doesn't support HDCP2.2. HDCP2.2 compatible equipments are needed to see 4K contents which are encypted with HDCP2.2.

Not good at all.

Daft question possibly.. But I have always wondered this about surround sound.. If you are surrounding your room in speakers.. Surely there is wires running all over your livingroom?

Yes that is true. Part of the challenge is how to hide them!

Bluetooth it's getting more and more advanced, and really simple to stream from a phone or even a laptop.

It's just so cosy to sit in your bed and be able to stream some music from your phone to your fancy music system

Any models with dab and bt like this setup?

I remember when was pro-logic. Presumably these days the DSP cores are better and or you can delay the picture so you don't get the picture out of sync with the audio.
