Yamaha YHT294 5.1 AV Receiver and Speaker System

The Yamaha YHT-294 packages up a range of classic Yamaha components to create an excellent all-in-one home cinema experience.

At the core of the Yamaha YHT-294 package, a powerful Yamaha RXV367 AV receiver offers a massive 775 watts of power and HDMI 1.4, making it compatible with the latest generation of 3D television sets.

The RXV367 AV receiver offers a range of useful features, including lip sync to ensure that dialogue matches perfectly with the lip movements of actors onscreen, while compressed music enhancer improves sound from highly compressed digital files, to offer a much more satisfying sound.

Meanwhile, Scene function selects exactly the right Digital Signal Processor (DSP) setting for whatever you’re watching, whether that be a classical concert or a war film, and the Yamaha will also set the system up to suit your room’s acoustics.

To complete the Yamaha YHT-294 package, a set of Yamaha speakers offer the perfect counterpoint to the receiver. Five discreet compact satellite speakers offer realistic and subtle sound, while an active subwoofer uses Yamaha’s own YST technology to create powerful and satisfying bass frequencies. The compact subwoofer manages to achieve the performance of a much bigger unit by using Active Servo Technology to push more air through the bass port.

It just means it doesn't have a built in Bluray player. You can plug in a player and set the display to show "Bluray" when it's on that input.
nice looking 5.1 system - just to note that the youtube link is slightly different and features a soundbar as part of the speaker system ... nice review though.;)
Great deal, purchased today thanks
Is that Optical port an input or an output?
voted hoooot!!

input, only the ones in white squares are outputs
I'm tempted but that YouTube thing put me off with all of the idiot speak and there seems to be zero UK reviews and almost no-one selling this rig.

Inevitable question, does anyone actually have one of these that they can please share their experiences?

Update - Have done a bit of research and this seems to be a US only (?) box and normally with the sound bar. Can anyone find someone here selling this rig other than BestBuy?

Many thanks....

Thanks for that. Was going spend £300 on an Onkyo system from Richer Sounds, but will take a punt on this for £100 less. The Mrs will be happer with the more discreet speakers too.
Thanks for this!

I too was going out today to buy an Onkyo HTS 3405 (I think) from RS...but for £270 not £300 as I have a VIP £30 off deal...

Looks like I'll have to spend some time mooching for reviews on this first though and try and save myself another £70!!!

This version has 4 seperate sats + centre + sub which imo is better than the fixed front left/right + centre soundbar config with the US version.

lol i was just looking at that and was about to post, no hd decoding and bad speakers, can anyone share their experience with Yamaha?

Edited by: "MR1123" 29th May 2011
No HD decoding is a deal breaker for me, I'd do your homework before rushing in to get this
Hi MR1123 and davem - thanks for that and the box does seem to be the RXV367 and I have the manual now if anyone wants it, just PM me.

It also seems that the back panel is a bit different from that shown above as, in the manual, it shows a square iPod/Bluetooth connector between the HDMI out and the Composite video jacks. Picture here

Must say I'm really tempted 'cause it's so little money but I've had my eye on the Onlyo HT5405 for twice the price!!!

Where's Loughborough Guy when you need him??? ROTFLOL

Update - now I am 101% confused oO BestBuy have this setup at £199.95 and what appears to be the identical rig labelled AV67 in Clearance at £299.98 - same RXV367 main box and seemingly the same speakers. Even the pictures seems to be the same. Maybe it is a different speaker set with the £199.95 offer from the AV67 set which are stated to be NS-P280. If it is different, which set of speakers is it??

They aren't really comparing like for like on that thread. Yamaha badge or not this is still an all in one at a very competitive price. Amp + separates will obviously yield better performance and quite likely more features but also cost you considerably more.

The only real negative I can see is lack of HD decoding, but doubt you'd get it in many others at this price. Aside from that it appears to have a decent feature list for £199 IMO.
Any advice on soundbars guys? Any good deals
At the mo? Thinking my room is too small for a big rig
It's the Dolby true hd and dts master audio that you have on blu-ray. If you have Blu-Ray then ideally you'd be looking for an amp that could do this. I've had my eye on a few of the Onkyo deals on here which seem £50 to £100 more but do everything I would want

The Onkyo is £299.95 at RS but if you quote the VIP email you can get it for £269.95 but I am sure it will eb reduced to £249.95 again soon if you are not in a hurry but you just never know. I waited for ages for something to be reduced by them and then bought it a week or so before they reduced it....lol....
@ Konimitsu
lol mate I joined the VIP club a month ago, could I use the £10 voucher on top of the VIP offer of £269.95, if I can don't mind paying extra £10 and getting this now
I have also £50 on my amazon account but price is £300 there. Btw RS change their prices every 2weeks so I I think last week was the last change due to it being £300 this week thanks
Just got this message at as I went to complete the checkout page

We’re extremely sorry but we are unable to process your order at this time. Please click Exit Checkout and try again after 24 hours.

Edit: Just phoned them and apparently I've to contact my bank first to authorize the transaction...strange.

Have you bought one already?? This usually coem sup if they have a special offer on and limiting it to 1 per customer as I have had this message before when trying to buy more than 1 item. Use another email address / card if you can potherwise give them a call to sort it out for you.
also had the above message, seeems like an internal error with bestbuy card payments as ive checked with card issuers (tried 2 cards) & they say no problem there end & now im unable to purchase even over the phone with the cards.

No problem bud, I am always looking at the AV stuff so yes i'll let you know.
Thank You
this package is the rxv367 av receiver and if you google that you will also find this cheaper, including the speakers too! and it's sold by richer sounds
Those looking for reviews check out the rxv367 as suggested.

This being the entry level receiver from yamaha it can't decode HD audio itself but since just about every bluray player sold can output audio as LPCM this makes no difference you will still be hearing HD audio but the decoding will be done by your bluray player instead of the receiver. Also if you have a phat PS3 it can only output HD audio as LPCM anyhow.

This is a a very capable all be it entry level receiver, just as good as the onkyo 3305 or 3405. My last two receivers have been yamaha and I personally would never buy a ugly and unreliable onkyo which also run hot.

The rxv367 is 159.99 and the yamaha nsp285 speakers 99.99 on richer sounds so voted hot from me.
