This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

This one is right up my street. Love the styling (it's Days of Wonder so you know what you are getting) and the mechanics sounds great. 7.3 on BGG. NBP is Amazon.

Queen Himiko has tasked every builder in the kingdom with a prestigious mission: build the capital of Yamataï and make it the jewel of the archipelago. Your task: surpass your competitors and build the most prestigious city of them all, using resources from the fleets that travel through the kingdom.

This is Yamatai - the latest board game by Days of Wonder.

Players compete to build palaces, torii, and their own buildings in the land of Yamataï. The game includes ten numbered action tiles, each showing one or more coloured ships and with most showing a special action. You shuffle these tiles, place them in a row, then reveal one more than the number of players.

Clear the different islands of the archipelago to recruit powerful specialists that will assist you, or use the resources carried by the boats that navigate between them to construct buildings on the islands! And, if you’re skilled enough, try creating prestigious buildings such as high temples or rare torii.

However, you are not alone in competing for Queen Himiko’s favour… will you manage to surpass your opponents?

  • Ages 13+
  • 2-4 Players
  • 40-80 Minute Playing Time

Is this actually any good? I thought it was meant to be quite weak by DoW standards. It's been hovering around this price for a while now

Not played but I understand its not as good as 5 Tribes but plays similarly. Same designer I believe. Theme is a bit pasted on which is a shame as the theme is what interests me about it.
Been 22ish most places for a while. Was 19.99 on Zatu for a long while but decided to post now dropped to 19

Only played one game so far (2 player) but it seems alright. The Five Tribes comparisons are pretty fair; it has a similar feel and flow to the turns but, as jay suggested, it's noticeably less engaging and complex (that's a pretty high bar to measure games by though). I will say this for it - the artwork and components are both gorgeous.

It very much depends on what sort of games you play/ like most but generally I'd say this will be a worthwhile purchase for most modern board game fans. It probably won't blow you away or become your favourite game but it's solidly entertaining.

Thanks, you put it better than me!
I really enjoy this game. Very underrated. Lots going on, lots of decisions. Not too complicated but definitely not a gateway game.

Did the theme feel a bit pasted on? I've read reviews that feel this.
Played this at Spiel on release. We didn't really get it (we understood how to play, but didn't really enjoy it). Great price though

It never crossed my mind. But I guess you could have put a number of themes around the central mechanics of the game. I'm glad they did it the way they did because its visually appealing.

Ah that's good to know. It's the theme that appeals to me most about this. Might take the plunge
