Yamazaki Distillers Reserve Whisky 70cl - £43 with £1 delivery @ Sainsburys

Found 15th Feb 2015
Released in Spring 2014, this is one of two Distiller's Reserve single malt whiskies from Suntory in Japan. This single malt from the Yamazaki distillery is jam-packed with superb red berry notes, gained from the whisky being matured in Bordeaux wine casks and Sherry casks. A seriously good dram for the price.

Good luck trying to find it elsewhere as its sold out from all the usual whisky spots (TWE/Master of Malt), but available from other places for £60-£95 without delivery.

Sounds like a great whisky but this is not on special

Voucher code doesn't work on spirits:-( I'm out.

Sorry - good spot - I actually bought groceries as well, so I guess it worked for me. Still a good price for the Whisky

Lol every time I watch Massan I want to drink some whisky.

Is this a Whisky and Sake mix of some sort?

Original Poster

No - Its a fantastic Japanese single malt whisky (clearly not Scotch). Having been to Suntory/Yamazaki tasting at the Whisky Shop last year by their international brand ambassador I have been seriously impressed with them. I have tried quite a few and I think this compares to some of the more sherried Scotches (Glenfarclas, Glendronach, Springbank)

thought 43 +1 was 44????

should have put my glasses on

£42 for the whisky, if you get with your normal shopping (and spend over £100 - its free), otherwise cheapest delivery is £1 so £43

Why would you say that that given the post? Yamazaki produce some of the world's best whisky.

Nah, the guy who started the company was a student at Glasgow uni in the 20's before moving back to Japan.

Original Poster

Original distiller educated in Glasgow about 90 years ago and took this knowledge back to Japan to setup 2 distilleries based on the Scotch methods of production (and originally malt and copper stills)

Pains me to see this at this price when a year ago you could pick up a bottle for about £35

Original Poster

Indeed - the Jap whiskies are going up in price along with popularity

I worked in there ! japanese Whiskies are blended using Scottish based malts and their own hybrid based spirits. a wee bit nippy ;-) if you must buy Whisky make sure its the real Scottish stuff !

Or Irish! I've not tried Japanese but there's some good comments about it.

For relaxing times, make it Suntory time.

Bowmore is owned by Suntory (as is Jim Beam), hence the connection.

It's definitely distilled in japan.

Means you miss out on a whole swathe of quality whisk(e)y outside of Scotland. Japan (Nikka, Suntory, Yamazaki etc) , India (Amrut), America (Sazerac, Eagle Rare, Blantons to name a few) and Canadian (Crown Royale, Canadian club etc). Dont get me wrong we are spoilt for choice in the UK (and price), but there is some really interesting stuff outside of Scotland.

Not to mention the Tasmanian whisky voted best single malt in the world at the World Whisky awards 2014

It's imported by Bowmore.

Great Whisky I bought a bottle at Christmas, but the price is nothing special ! I paid £42 then and it was about the same price in Waitrose .

Agreed - Can you find it anywhere else cheaper? Or available? This bottle is starting to be priced at £65-£90 by other online retailers due to low stocks. Its sad as its a good dram

But this site is for deals,
£42 at Sainsburys and Waitrose is the regular price. So a cheaper price than that is what would be considered a deal !

Original Poster

True. Dont expect it to stay at that price - Distillery have announced 10-15% price increases across the range
