Call me tight but would anyone seriously pay this much for blimming candles?! (Not rated btw, just wondering!)

Yes, me for example (and QVC have apparently sold well over 1,000 sets in the past 40 minutes). Many people love fragranced candles, and Yankee are often considered to be among the best. There are cheaper candles around, but they often don't last as long, and many don't have much scent.

I appreciate that not everyone will be interested in this deal, but believe me when say many people will be.

Cute avatar btw.

I prefer the oil with sticks as you don't need to be burning anything for the scent to escape

Thats a lot of candles! I bought some scented candles once (quality Ikea don't you know!) but haven't used them, even though I bought them about 2 years ago, maybe I'm just not a candle kind of person!

Just had a look on google and they are very expensive so voted hot, just not for me!

Almost £50 for 8 candles, you must have money to burn.:)

I bought some Tea Tree candles in whisky tumblers from half cost, for 50p each. Each one burned for about 80 hours, smelled lovely. THAT is a bargain, lol. These, imo, are not. voted cold.

8 candles, £47.95 - are these MAGIC or something?

Prefer the Yankee wax tarts, much cheaper at around 99p online or 89p from local garden centre and can be reused until scent wears off, they are also stronger smelling than the 10oz condles.

Yes, they are magic. They are used to get money from foolish people.
Seriously: a candle in a jam-jar? come on!

This is a very good price for yankee candles, these candles cost a fortune individually and cannot be beaten for the throw of scent they have. On that basis alone should people be determining whether or not this is a hot deal. It does not become a cold deal because some people think it is too expensive for candles.

Show the OP where you can get them cheaper and then vote cold.

Hot for me. Thanks OP.

Ive voted Hot

People may not agree but these candles genuinely sell for around £9 each on the high street so this set is around a £24 saving on those prices.

Well said !

This is ridiculous that people are voting cold when they cannot come up with anywhere that you can buy this brand of candle for cheaper!!

Shall we all start voting the never ending stream of Muller Yoghurt deals cold just because Tesco's own brand is cheaper for example ??????

Exactly, If a Ferrari or Porsche was half price people would be voting it cold because it's just a car. Albeit a very expensive way to get from A - B, but a bargain nonetheless.

Unfortunately this site has gone downhill recently with some people feeling they must vote on every deal whether they know anything about it or not. I reserve my personal judgment until its an item I actually know about.

So many times I end up biting my lip - lol

It's reassuring that there are still HKUDers who vote according to how doing so will help other members. I posted this deal in good faith for the benefit of people who like Yankee candles. Whilst it is sad that some people spoil HUKD by voting for dubious reasons, most of the comments above show that there are still many members who understand why HUKD was created in the first place. If my posting has been of help to just one other member, then it was worth it - even if it does end up freezing, at least I will have my candles to keep me warm!

Thankyou to those people who posted helpful comments. To the minority who were less helpful, please consider why you use HUKD yourselves - to save you money on the things you buy.

I know!, I bet like me you sometimes ask yourself why you bother, my main bone of contention is when I go out my way to help people, particularly in the Deal requests section and then get no acknowledgment whatsoever. I'm not doing it to be thanked but it helps.

I think your previous comment indicates why we still do try to help though.

Keep them in the fridge before each lighting and they'll burn a lot longer

Absolutely. I've got some great deals through HUKD, and even though I may not thank every poster, I am very grateful.

Great to see you as the original poster speak out against the people who just hit the cold button without being able to come up with a better price or another reason why they voted cold.....

Notice none of them have had the balls to respond which hopefully means they have trotted off to another site where they can just be negative about things for the sake of it

Well done for the original post ..... rep added

Thanks mate. Just trying to get people to think before they vote. Fortunately most HUKDers are sensible, but it only takes a few to spoil it for everyone else.

I wonder if you considered my comment to be one of the unhelpful ones?

Simply, these candles are VERY expensive. Even at the reduced price. I have very nice candles which were cheap. Very similar product. This is not like comparing yogurts, or luxury top end cars. Just because these candles in this offer cost less than they would usually, does not make them a hot deal to me, since the candles are still grossly overpriced in my opinion. I like candles and I simply believe these are a ludicrous price and i will vote accordingly. I do not feel these are a hot deal.

A cold vote of -68 has to say something, we can't all be wrong ...

Actually I considered your comments useful. At least you suggested a cheaper alternative that worked for you. I have no problem with that - it helps other members to make an informed choice. I absolutely agree that not everyone wants to pay £6 for a candle, but this deal was aimed at Yankee candle fans, of which there are many thousands. Unfortunately some members didn't realise this, even though I tried to make it clear in my posting.

What I object to is posters who criticise a deal but don't offer any alternatives. Or people who cold something because they don't like the shape/colour/smell/etc. As another poster pointed out, a 30% saving off a £30,000 BMW doesn't make it a bad deal just because you can buy a Kia for £6,000. And this is a valid comparison. Yankee are a premium brand. I have personal experience of Ikea own-label candles and they were by comparison awful - ended up chucking them in the bin. How's that value for money?

Just out of interest, have you ever tried Yankee candles? I guess like most of the other cold voters you haven't.

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to answer my post, and clarifying. I do agree with what you said here too. I have tried Yankee candles. At one of my sister's homes, she had some of the tarts in the bedroom I was using and told me to try them. They were nice yes, but I still just don't feel they were worth the money. I do agree with you re the ikea candles, theyre definitely cheap and cheerful, and they smell nice when unlit, but virtually no scent while you burn them.
