This is the 'silver' version by the way folks, for those who may have commented or seen the other camera the other day and were advised the silver one was better. However, this is not a 'great price' as it's normally closer to £25 when it's on offer. Not voted either way.

Not reduced like in previous offers. Bought a couple of these for just under £25 last black Friday.
Can you hard wire this to the interior rearview mirror?

Can you hard wire this to the interior rearview mirror?

Not sure what you mean tbh? Hard wire normally refers to drawing power from the fuse box. Not sure how you'd get power from a mirror
My standard post for looking at the 'quality' of this camera footage:

hotukdeals.com/dea…769

I have no recommendation to make on current dashcams, but you do need to directly compare footage. Consider whether you actually need to be able to read registration plates, and whether you want a zoomed out extra-wide angled view or a zoomed in narrower view. WiFi and GPS are mostly gimick. Test WDR in low light conditions - Don't just assume it will be great.

Buy from amazon and return the ones you are dissatisfied with.

so the E-Prance G1W is better then this yi camera for reading number plates?

Yes. But the G1W is old and no longer available, although there were lots of fakes out on eBay. My point is, there are cheap cameras out there which are loads better than the Yi, and the Yi really isn't great, although it is better than nothing.

Does anyone recommend any front and rear dash cams? Cheers

One of these and another one of these.
I wouldn't recommend an all in one dual camera system because if your sd card or camera dies you will loose both front and rear recordings, with two separate cameras you will still have some footage if one dies plus it's almost the same to wire two cameras up because even a combined dual camera system needs a power cable to the rear camera.
Added 3 videos from this camera all 3 minutes long.
One at night, one with speaking so can listen to internal microphone and one driving very slowly with cars on the opposite side to see the number plates. Was recorded in above 1080p but Youtube has downgraded them to 1080p sorry.

I've had one of these for nearly two years

A few clips here for image quality

School Dodgem car drop off

VW off roading

and my all time favourite " You tried to run me over"

Crazy Upton-Upon-Severn Man (although my windscreen was quite dirty on this one)

all taken on this cam, the playback is excellent so long as you understand how to download it through the app.

Totally recommend, I paid £37 for it two yeas ago which was a great deal at the time

You can buy cheaper non branded dash cams but will they work when you need them

i totally agree with you there the only problem is just finding these cheap cameras that perform well.

still quite difficult to see the number plates but i guess that is down to youtube downgrading the quality.
Had this a couple years now and it's fantastic. Quality really good~ would highly recommend.

unfortunately it needs to be kept charging. It does come with a really long cable so I fitted it around the edge of the window and under. Can't really see it cause it tucks away under the plastics

Sigh. Wondering if it's worth waiting for dash cams that can last a decent time on battery. Was actually speaking about this with a friend... Like if you have a decent old smart phone then you could just use that as a dash cam.
If you want to see number plates don't bother buying this useless for that
androidavis15/07/2019 15:18

Why didn’t you run him over?

My children were in the back plus evidence was being recorded.
There is a good editor in windows photos that can slow it all down, it is very rare that you can't make out the number plates at speed when watching frame to frame by the way.

70mph you've no chance. Stopped at lights maybe ok

Why would you need number plate footage at 70 MPH? If you impacted at that speed surely the vehicles would be stationary at the crash site or nearby.
Show me your footage from this dashcam to prove me wrong!

Not every piece of idiotic driving results in a crash. Brake tested by a truck isn't good driving is it. But no way to prosecute if the number plate is unreadable

Seems pretty straightforward to me. You were talking about crashes. Not sure why you think all aspects of needing a camera relate to crashes
I just can't see how a Truck can be brake checking you, going 70 faster than you. It just doesn't make sense to me. If a truck was in front of you doing 70 and tapping his brakes, you must also be doing 70 and for the footage to fail he would need to be doing 140. As all trucks are restricted to 56, you would be going 14 more than his top speed and literally pushing his bumper to override his speed limiter.
