I bought this a couple of months ago (was a few quid cheaper then so not sure if this is a deal) and it is excellent. I use the MyArmor suction mount and it stays in place. Quality is excellent and you can easily read index plates. Videos on youtube and Amazon are often the compressed lower quality one - this cam stores both 1080p and lower res segments which are used for access by the wifi and I suspect that they are the videos that you see online.

Onl;y drawback is that the cam is grey which makes it quite visible even when hidden behind the mirror.

Solid camera for the price!
This looks almost identical to the one I bought, but seems to be a different listing. If it is the same, it's a very good camera, although the WiFi connection often fails to work. It has to be in the right mood I think.

Edit: I didn't get a suction mount, not sure if this one does.

Mine came with a sticky pad mount. So if you'd prefer a suction mount, you'll need to buy one separately.

I just bought one on the last deal (a little cheaper I think) well worth the money. Easy interface wifi connection is good and sets time etc.

The motion alarms didn't work for me (I was getting collision and drift warnings whilst parked) but picture is good easy to edit etc.

The bigger the card the better if you want to use best resolutions and keep recordings for a few days (depending on drive time of course). It makes 3 minute recordings and you can press an emergency button for a 'keep' file. The collision recording is good (goes off when you go over a pothole on sensitive) and records to the same 'keep file'.

The biggest sd is 64gb and needs to be a 10(best quality) I had an older 32gb which wasn't up to the job as write speed was slower.

Would recomend
This is a great cam for the price but need to.make sure you get the right sd card class 10 thinking of getting another
I'm a bit puzzled by the number of various dash cams on Amazon website.
Any thoughts why is this one better than the following, for example:
1
2
3
4
I know this one has WiFi connectivity, but that's not the main functionality, is it? And do we really need 60 fps to capture that registration number?

Yes 60 fps footage looks excellent compared to 30 fps. Question is would you want to RISK missing the number plate of the car driving towards you in the opposite direction if your both doing 30mph. Always liked mobius action camera but might buy one of these to give it a go.

Quality of lens, sensor and processor probably more important than frame rate.

I don't think there is a way to find out the quality of lens and (in most cases) processor and sensor used in those 200+ dash cams currently sold on Amazin website alone. That's why I said it's confusing and very difficult to choose which one to buy.
The reviews on Amazon for this have a couple of videos and neither can you read the car registration numbers. Is this due to this camera, or can most cameras not pick these up ?

Thank you. I've been wanting a dash cam for some time, but with the large number of different makes/models out there I've never known where to start. This looks like a good one then. I presume once it is installed you leave it and don't need to do anything further with it (unless you want to take off footage) ?

Correct, although if you park on road etc you'll want to unmount and hide the cam when unattended.
The usb lead is easily long enough to conceal around the windscreen surround and either into a hardwired connection or a lighter adapter.
For this price its a no brainer- turn off ADAS and a couple of the other unneeded addons (mic can be muted as well) and its a great basic dashcam which does all you'll need.

Thanks for the suggestions. Do people tend to hide the camera when parking their car, rather than leaving them connected ?

I think I'm going to go for this.

I've seen footage from Techmoan on youtube which was better than this. You can never tell with third party sellers (unless you have dealt with them before) but I can almost guarentee the amazon footage is not 1080p/60fps and has been compressed the fudge out of for Amazon. Real Yi footage at 60fps looks really good and you can nearly always freeze the frame and read the plates, even when the cars are closing at 80mph
Up to you but I do and I suspect most others do as well.. Less temptation for any random thieving t$%t that might decide to have it away.
If this is like the other one posted before it’s an excellent camera and I have no issues with the WiFi and I think the apps brilliant and you can watch live from your phone and take still pictures(entertains my son lol).
The only issue I have the same as above is it’s very visible and I don’t know if I should leave it in the car, some friends have said it’ll act as a deterrent but I keep thinking they might break in to get it.
I’m tempted to put a sticker on it saying I’m cheap don’t bother lol

Agree it's a bit of a problem, but perhaps sticking to those that give a decent description and tell you a bit more about what's inside the box isn't a bad starting point. Have a look at Oldshark. I'm not saying they're good or bad, but at least for two of the three models on Amazon, there's a bit more technical information. There are a few others I've seen that give similar levels of technical information, but they're definitely in the minority.

I'm pretty sure that anybody thinking on nicking one will know they're cheap. Getting into the boot from the cabin's probably a better source of goodies.
The term 'motion detection' is misleading. It has impact detection but it doesn't have the ability to start recording when something moves in front of the camera.
Great camera though, downloading clips to my phone with the WiFi is a great feature.
Anyone know where you would get a suction mount to fit this ?
Just read on Amazon that you should use a certain type of memory card for dash cams.... SanDisk SDSDQQ-032G-G46A High Endurance Video Monitoring microSD Card. Is anyone using standard class 10 micro sd's?
Oh, sorry another question. My car has always on 12v lighter sockets. Does this mean that I'd have to manually unplug it otherwise it would drain the battery ?

Link to where Amazon says that please. Normally, standard class 10 is ok. They're maybe looking at high temperature tolerance of the ones you've quoted.

DON'T BUY THIS FOR DASH CAM USE!!!!!

DON'T BUY THIS FOR DASH CAM USE!!!!!

Sandisk themselves specifically state that this should not be used for Dash Cam, In their warranty it states:
"This warranty does not cover use of the Product in connection with the following uses or devices (as determined by SanDisk): (ii) video monitoring, security, and surveillance devices"

You need a micro SD that is specifically designed to be overwritten time and time again specifically in dashcam and home security use and Sandisk make cards specifically for this;
see [SanDisk SDSDQQ-064G-G46A High Endurance Video Monitoring microSD Card - 64 GB]:

amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-SDSDQQ-064G-G46A-Endurance-Monitoring-microSD/dp/B00V5Q1N1I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1508830071&sr=8-2&keywords=sandisk+high+endurance

I made the mistake of buying the Ultra version here and whilst I didn't even open it (I read up before installing) I can't say it won't work in your dash cam however there are many reviewers out there that experience failures in that application and if the manufacturer themselves don't cover it in warranty in that application then why would you risk it?

The lower 16gb version is £16:99.....

Get this cam, the SD card that is the 2nd pick on Wirecutter (as top pick is US only), and a suction mount. It's a great dash cam and the 60fps video, along with wi-fi, makes it an excellent choice.

I've just had a look at the Sandisk warranty and it isn't specific to any grade of card. The only way you'd know that the Endurance was specifically for dashcams is if you used their product selector. I have two Sandisk Ultra micro SD 32GB cards in front of me, still in their packaging and there's nothing indicating any restrictions.
Some dashcam suppliers recommend reformatting cards monthly to avoid overwriting problems.
Potential problems with cards may be one of the reasons so few dashcam sellers include cards. I'd assumed it was to knock £10 off the headline price, but maybe not.
That said, dashcams have been around longer than these sooper dooper cards, so it's maybe just a Sandisk sales pitch

If you select a dash cam on Amazon then scroll across the Sponsored products...., or Customers who viewed.... lists, the majority of dashcams that come with a card show Sandisk Ultra.

I leave mine (same camera) running permanently as battery discharge is not an issue assuming you use your car every day or three. A holiday had us return to a flat battery on the wifes car though the battery was elderly. Great camera for the money IMO (3 in the family).

Thats what I do - you can always get it hardwired into the car into a power source thats only on when the car is running. The camera does have battery in it anyway.

try this. I bought this one and works just fine. Its from hong kong so you might have to wait longer than usual to get it but its only £1.07 and in the meantime you can use the one provided with the camera.
For those who wish to make it less visible, I cut a piece of carbon fibre like vinyl and stick it over the camera so it’s far less visible. I’ll add a photo later so you can see what it looks like. Maybe a few pieces of electrical might work to the same effect
