If anyone's interested, these CAN be used outside, as long as they are covered failry well. Mine have been u for months, through rain, wind, thunder, hail, snow and down to minus 7...and still work.

Been waiting to jump on the YI cart, thought it was time to try one.
£38.99 thx for post
Have one. Great camera
I have the 720 version and it is fantastic purchased 3 of them in total . The yi app is really easy use also and it is very easy to add cameras to an existing set up well recommended
I had one similar to this but had to return because I can't seem to connect to the internet because of this

"Built-in support for 802.11b/g/n 2.4Ghz (5Ghz currently not supported)

I really need one but can't seem to connect.

I have normal sky broadband,
Not fibre.

I've checked forums etc, can't seem to connect to the 2.4g

I did Change on settings, however still couldn't connect.

Please can anyone point me to the right direction.

Thank you in advance
Get a different router and use that instead. Years ago when I had sky I know they made it so you have to use their router, I’m not sure if it’s still the same. If it is, there’s ways around it. Either by some clever work around or by simply connecting a new router into the Sky router and placing it in the DMZ (disabling everything and effectively using the sky router just as a modem) or there may be a way around their authentication now and you can just straight swap it. I’d suggest a Draytek but they are pricey (just got a 2862ac for £280!). There are others that will suffice for much less though. Sorry if that’s confusing but just want to let you know it’s possible and give you pointers in the right direction! I have two of these Yi cameras and they are very much worth every penny.

Bought the 720p version on offer earlier in the week and it’s really good. I’m using it to monitor our front porch as it records to an sd card. This one will do internally to keep an eye on our dogs.

Hi, thank you for your reply, I am seriously lost. I dont mind spending a few quid on a new router, but not £280! Lol.

But to be honest, il probably end up messing up the router by fiddling with it.

I know these cameras are amazing and that's why I really really want one.
Quick question. This camera supports only 2.4G Does that mean that my phone also needs to be connected to 2.4G in order to connect to camera?

Nope if your router broadcasts 2.4 and 5 simultaneously, it’ll be transmitting out the same network on both bands so you’ll connect to it just fine.

If I had a bit more time today I’d have a look for some instructions for you. Have a google on replacing your sky router with something like a Netgear and see if someone’s written some comprehensive instructions. It’s not difficult and, there’s always the reset button on the sky router if it all goes wrong!

Even if the 2.4 and 5 have different SSID?

Yep they often have different SSID’s. it’s a big discussion, not time to explain but routers offer band steering if they offer both bands but only one SSID. You probably have something like Virgin2245_2G and Virgin2245_5G which is the same network but different bands. Typically if you can see the 5G from your device it’s better to join it as it tends to be a lot quicker. Same LAN but different way of getting on to it.

How old is your router? Ask Sky to upgrade your router FOC if it's old.
Thanks gooner, ordered mate £38.99.

Thanks OP. Have been waiting for this to come up again. Purchased!
Yes ask your provider I've just been given a new router from Talk Talk.I called them up complaining about the signal dropping out.
I own all variations of their cameras and can say the quality is superb, right across the range. Even the 720p ones give a clean, crisp image. They're so easy to set up to the APP from Play Store and from their website for the PC version. The cloud storage they offer is too expensive in my eyes, but justpop in a good quality 32gb microSD and you're good to go.
What is the quality like in the dark? Could it be used in a toddlers room?

Try resetting the camera, it should connect fine, just give it a few mins & set it up close to the router, if that fails , restart the router then try the same again..
Does not work with Alexa or Echo . Many like Arlo and Netvue work with Amazon Devices.

I Did all that, had this weird loud beeping noise coming from the camera to connect via wifi etc.
I connected via cable at the end, but need wifi for my needs.
How are other sky users connecting this, would be interested to know, the only reason holding me back from buying this, as I cba sending back if i can't connect it.

The guy who bought it had better luck after he enlarged the code on his phone?

I have the Yi home camera. Tried to connect it to the wifi last night...repeated error. You're directed to download the latest firmware. Which I have but have yet to install to see if that helps. Give that a go.
I bought one last week, added SD card for £27 , 64GB working great . Really happy with it sitting in pub and watching my drive and swivel it from my mobile. Highly recommended.
This worth getting then?

Bought the other one for £20 t'other day ...
These are superb cameras. One thing I've not seen mentioned here yet is how good the night vision is - the built-in IR lights make it as bright as day in the image (but don't light up the room to human eyes, of course).
Thanks OP. Just ordered two on different accounts. Offer is only one per account.
Edited by: "andyglider" 28th Apr
Can these be set to only record on motion detection? Is so, can you set the detection area and sensitivity?
On average how many days of recording can I expect with a 32GB MicroSD card, looking to just cover my driveway and a 2nd camera for the back of the house.

I had issues with 2.4Ghz being very very crowded in our flat. The 2.4 channel was overlapping with neighbours and the camera would refuse to connect to the router. I was about to send the camera back as faulty!
Simply changing the channel number in the router settings solved the problem. And now I'm very very pleased with it. Works bullet proof for two months. The first free month I tried the excellent cloud service and after that simply stick an SD card into the camera that works just as well with a constant loop recording.
Ordered two black ones. Thanks OP. Cheaper than an external camera setup.
