If the Chinese Army want to see videos of me sitting in my underpants watching Planet Earth 2 they are welcome to the footage.

Now has an alexa skill so perfect combo for the amazon show deals 👌👌👌although the skill is working perfect with the dome cameras, keeps buffering with the stick cams. Hopefully they fix this soon!

Yeah! Me too!
It's doesn't say but does anyone know big this is suitable for outdoors?

No not really. Unless it was in a sheltered place that would never get wet, but even then..... id buy a dedicated outdoor camera.
Got this camera, no complaint with the camera but the activity alert can be very slow slow to load in the app - great at first but a lot slower in the last few months
Beware, these cameras struggle when switching between day and night vision. We have one suspended from the ceiling in our little girl's bedroom, and her slowly fading night light causes this to freak out and turn the night vision on and off for ages. It must mechanically move/remove a filter from the sensor, and makes a very audible clicking noise when doing so.

I've Tweeted Yi numerous times, and had zero response.

Other than that, great bargain cameras...
Am I missing something or has anyone else had the same issue with volume turning off every time someone gets alert or message or if the wifi disconnects for any reason.its happened to us many times and volume button turns off automatically by default and u never know if your baby is awake or crying. I'm now having to leave door open and always checking on camera to see if the volume hasn't turned it's self off. Is there a setting or some trick to sort this out.

Same issue with mine as well
Can you turn the IR (night vision) off or is it automatic? I have one in a window that's static, with the IR ring off the is no glare looking through the window. I
Can you use this as a baby monitor continuously?

Yes, but everytime you need to turn on speaker volume on your YI APP. Always keep eye on speaker volume on YI APP sometime it's turn off automatically and you never know your baby is crying. So be careful.
Week ago I've got 1080p version for 22quid from Amazon as a Lightning Deal.

so I wont vote for this either way.
I wouldn't bother. Poor sound quality (constant lagging - you won't even be able to make a conversation)...Server seems to be based in China? Long buffering time and customer service isn't really there. Best to stick to a brand that is within your region and where the data centre is also in the same region as you (in this case, UK or Europe)
It's the perfect camera if you want your home to be watched over by the chinese government.

I've used Yi Cameras for quite some time and have to disagree on all points.

For the sound yes there is a slight delay but this isn't really an issue. Small conversation is still possible, I use it for this purpose on a daily basis.

I've only had to contact CS once or twice but they replied fairly quickly and attempted to genuinely resolve the issue rather than give generic responses.

Server location China you seem to have issue with, it's a product made in China they can put their servers where they want. You're far more likely to receive government surveillance from the UK than China.

The only real issue with these cameras is some problems with delayed notifications.

For the price, you can't really go wrong.
had mine over a year, never had a stable connection from day one, constantly loses wifi signal from only a few feet away from an extender. have to keep deleting camera from app and reinstating it again, pain in the backside.
Anyone had any issues discovering thier yi camera through Alexa? IV added the skill but can't find the device

Of course they can put their servers where they want... I just want to know where my data goes and what it is used for There are better non-supscription cameras available

The UK government also spies on people so buying something made in the UK doesn't protect you from surveillance, likely increases it.

This camera doesn't require a subscription

Same issue with mine as well

Same here. We swapped it out for one of the HD wide angle fixed cameras. Works ok with our littleun's nitelite

FYI
although the extender does provide a stronger signal but it can only be as strong as it receives from the router. The extender needs to stay fairly close to the router for it to work properly.

I'm not saying they don't, but at least GDPR protects my data providing it stays within the EU.. It does require a subscription if you want to look at a clip from say a week ago
112 is a bit naff, but at least its 365

Government surveillance doesn't adhere to GDPR.

It doesn't require a subscription, you can use a memory card for local storage of footage. 7 days of clips are stored free in the cloud so if when reviewing these clips you see something of interest you can open the full footage from your memory card.

The paid cloud storage subscription is completely optional.

yes, I have one of these pointing at my garage out of an upstairs window and had the same issue. The IR LED option is in settings in the app

I have 2 of these outside. One under our porch and one under the gable end of our house. Both been up over a year and not a problem, they are sheltered enough to not get wet but obviously they have withstood fog and freezing conditions.. Despite a few oddities I highly recommend for the price. Picture as clear as our Ring 2 doorbell too.

I wouldn't buy these... I got one in a deal before, broke after a few weeks with the image going all purple or completely black or white, camera not connecting, night vision not working etc. Got a replacement camera, the exact same thing happened a few months after. So yeah, I wouldn't recommend them to be honest.

To be fair at this price you could give it a go, maybe build a cheap housing for the cam out of some transparent material.
The only issue for me is that they are not onvif compatibly what means I can’t hook them up with my Synology NAS other than that they are ok for the money.

True, but the infrared will reflect back off the transparent material at night unless you turn the IR off at night (which I know you can on the 1089 version)

We have 2 of these to use to monitor toddlers rooms (we used an audio baby monitor when they were smaller). Fantastic for that though probably gonna end up as a part of a botnet eventually given they can't be updated and their security is... who knows?
