A great price for an IP camera, 720p, 2-way audio. The US site offers it in black for $35.58 including import tax (which is around £26)...

Cold, has been £20 a few times
Yep cold got this for £19.99 on a lightening deal. Good camera
Got a couple of these for £20 in the lightning sales to replace y-cam cameras that I returned to amazon after y-scam withdrew their free lifetime cloud recording service.

These are much better quality than y-cam. A fraction of the price (even at £40) and also have free 6 sec cloud recording and good value paid subscriptions if you want those.
Doesn't the 1080p offer more value for money?

Do you know if there is any better IP cam deals? I kinda want it to be cheap but when I saw some very cheap ones people was saying you can't change the password or something so you can be hacked or something don't remember basically I don't want to my watched when someone gets my ip
I've ordered the 1080p version but I'm concerned about the security of these given access to my network. Any thoughts?

Nope sorry, I just noticed that it was cheaper that's all.
Gone for the 1080p one with the voucher for £32.99

Got the the one posted last week though for £20 on a lightning deal and really impressed actually for the price.
I got this for £20 last week it’s a great item and notifies you on your phone when there is movement
How do you know the password is encrypted even if you change it.
Have the 1080p one so far happy when using it on my wifi. Problem is when on the go and trying to view it on a mobile network, it’s laggy.
So good as a baby monitor, unless someone knows any tricks to improve it .

The Vikcam one on Amazon for £20 has served me well.

If you can change your router settings:
put the camera onto a guest account. it can access the internet, so connect to your phone app, but it can not access or see your home network.

and if your quick, the xiaomi ip gateway camera is back on promotion from gearbest (see my previous post)
I'm tempted to get the YI dome 1080p instead. Does anyone know how the models compare?

On the amazon page with the camera just under the price
Ok thanks, I have now purchased the 1080p version.
Got to getrid of my Y Cam camera's now they have changed their terms and conditions.
I will check this one out and then possibly purchase more.
Do you have to subscribe to Yi Cloud in order to save footage or can it be done locally?
Can you get it to save movement detection without having to pay monthly subscriptions?

Same. The dome version is 36.99 after coupon.

Looks like they're very similar except the dome is a bit bulkier but you can control the tilt/rotate remotely which is a handy feature.

Is there an option to set it to 720p?

Can't tell if serious or not. If you would rather pay £40 for something that has been £20 multiple times recently then by all means go for it. If you think this is a "hot UK deal" at £40 I'm afraid you're wrong.
You can get 1080p version of amazon for around £32 with promotion applied. So.. ice cold.

I think everyone would like to pay less for an item, especially if it has been available cheaper previously, however unless you have a time machine I fail to see your point?
there are two groups of people on here - those who don't have a time machine and those who don't see a home camera as an urgent necessity. actually there are three - those who don't need or want a home camera but we'll ignore those for now.

picture this. a friend pings you a message. he says he's seen a new home camera on amazon at half price, reduced from £80 to £40. you read it, ignore it, and he duly purchases said camera for £40.

a few days later, you're at his house and he shows you his new camera. you nod your head approvingly, and then tell him it was £20 a week ago, £20 a week before christmas and £20 about a month ago, and that perhaps if he doesn't need one urgently he should wait a while for a cheaper price, but you tell him you kept quiet about the cheaper price because you know he doesn't have a time machine. he looks at you like some kind of idiot.
There are some very strange people on here.

I think his point is there are a number of us that have been following these YI Camera threads recently and are aware that £40 is the going rate but YI are repeatedly running promotions via amazon and this model has dropped to £20 on multiple occasions. Currently it seems it's the 1080p models turn to be on special at about 33 quid, so a better deal than this one at 40 but it seems highly likely the 720p version will sooner or later be back at a better price. No need for a time machine!

EDIT: I can't actually see the 720p model for sale at all now so perhaps they are gone for good. Either way, at 40 quid it wasn't a good price given both 1080p models are selling for less!

Yi have also just listed the Outdoor Camera on Amazon UK, hopefully they will do a promo on that shortly
