"Get 1 of YI Home Camera 720p for £19.99 offered by YI Official Store UK."

Only 720p version but I've been using for the last month as my little boy has changed bedrooms and wanted to check he was ok - been flawless through the App. Even has a mic (though not the best audio). For £20 I'm happy. Can be removed from the mount and stuck to a wall if you want the camera to be discrete,

You can add an SD card to record locally - no need to bother with the expensive cloud storage option.

Thanks Op. Managed to catch my cheating wife with one of these and saved me a fortune in private detective / legal fees
33767718-C9mbz.jpgGot two of these had them almost a year, can’t fault them for the price. Bang a 32gb Sd card in them and they’ll record for about 4 days and then start to overwrite. The YI app is amazing for what it does and to be honest I have even paid for the cloud subscription before and that’s worth the money although it’s not a must. Highly recommend

Honestly.. I've got 3 YI (one is 720p) and the image quality on 720p version is pretty poor. There is only ONE activity detection zone, just saying.

the great thing is you can take the lens (black glossy circle) out from the stand and stick anywhere with double sided tape! makes it less obvious.
Once I get a notification of movement, can I use my phone to start recording while I am watching?

yes you can. You can also put SD card in and it can record motion (or 24/7) automatically.

bare in mind motion notifications don't always work perfect. most of the time I'm getting them late. Sometimes even a few hours late!

Completely agree, it's a good buy but I also find the notifications can be erratic and for some reason I couldn't get them to work at all on a huawei mate 10 pro I had.
Got one for £19.99 . Bargain price i got them last time on offfer and paid £23.99 . I have 2 of these already and there great. Thanks

Thanks. I want it to record if there are intruders. A little useless if it doesn't send me notifications when it's all happening, they would be long gone with the camera or SD card
if you thinking of getting this camera and sticking it in external housing to use outside - dont bother. the ebay housing is pretty crap and it can't whitstand wet weather.

If you want it for intruders I would suggest a proper camera not one of these things - don’t get me wrong they are great cameras for the money, I get accurate notifications, good picture quality and have 12 of them across 3 sites but if it’s flaky then it’s not what you want to worry about if for home security. I take the same attitude with cheap dashcams, for example - you only get one shot to capture an incident.

Really, looks great to me though I use it with a 6" phone and don't expect to be able to read a number plate 50m away. Guess it depends on what you want. I receive notifications almost instantly.
Buy 1080p instead.The difference is amazing . Most cameras now1080p .

It’s twice the price, the quality is better but not enough to warrant the extra IMO. I have 3 1080p Yi dome cameras and they’re clear but not so much that I ever resented buying the 720p.

Exactly. I actually use the 720p to read the control panel on my office AC unit and I can make out the little LCD digits. If you want to read a car number plate then you probably want the 1080p outdoor one not the 720p indoor one behind a pane of glass.

You can subscribe to their service and one of the subscriptions is to be recording 24/7 on a 7 day cycle (you can get longer cycles) but you will then be paying a lot more.
I see this takes 32gb card. Does anyone know if when the card is full it re-writes over old footage continouously like a dashcam would ?

How long does it take to fill up one 32gb card with video before a rewrite?

Lucky you.
From my experience, you can't even read the number plates from 10m (standing vehicle, and thats on 1080p version).
On a 720p you can't see properly the face of a person standing on the other side of room (4,70m in my case)..

These YI cams are great, but only for close distances. You get decent quality up to 3-4m. Unfortunately resolution won't help (720p, 1080p or even 4K) if the lens is cheap.

Just don't get me wrong, there are great for general monitoring, but I wouldn't rely on them as security camera etc.
still great for the money.

In my opinion 720p is fine for most home applications.

I have 720p Foscams (C1’s in dome enclosures) scattered around the exterior of the house and the front cameras can just about make out Number plates.

Mine is set to motion detection. So, I guess ultimately it depends how much movement is recorded. Mine is pointing out to the garden and I still have footage archives from a week ago.
Does anyone use third party software with this camera? (ie directly connects to its IP)?

I can say I've never had an issue with the notifications at all. I use the cloud service which records to the cloud each time it detects motion and it's very cheap, about £6/3 months if I remember right.
Check the other thread on these with videos I posted...as everyone was buying them without seeing video quality....fun for a bit of fun and keeping an eye on things but no good for anything else.....a proper CCTV ip camera with be £150 on its own
Can anyone recommend outside cameras? Thanks

I bought this camera 2 weeks ago and the motion notifications are amazing. It can detect a cat crossing the street at night from 20/25m - really impressed.
I've just bought my fourth. Love them, for what they are, they're excellent.

Should also mention that I work in an anti social behaviour role with work so regularly install CCTV and use the footage in a civil court. These devices fit the bill perfectly, even the app is good.

Hey - could I ask you about data storage please?

Is there cloud storage, is it free? etc.
Thanks OP. Been waiting for the 1080p Yi one to come down in price but in the meantime for £19.99 these are great. Had one 4 weeks now and also bought the 720p dome version when it was reduced. TBH the home has such a wide angle of view I don't need the movement of the dome.

Hikvision 5mp turret camera.....about £150 per camera and then you need a NVR which is about £200 but your talking another world in quality and features
It's a nice one. I got from the offer last time. Lucky that I got the 1080p for £19.99
