Seems like a good deal for the camera and waterproof case. Once more at the moment on Amazon you get £21 off the set at checkout and also a free Yi floating handlebar worth £16.95 if you click on the promotions. Sold by the Yi official store. This is a decent entry level action cam with electronic image stabilisation and a 2 inch gorilla glass touchscreen.

Genuine question...

What does this offer that something like the Apeman 4k Action Cam doesn't?

amazon.co.uk/Wat…X3M

I'm after a cheap action cam for a family holiday, and for general useage here and there, and was looking at that Apeman.

Lots of cheap alternatives available on Amazon, so I was wondering if there's anything specific that I should be looking out for?

The issue stems from the sensor and image processor differences. Put it simply, we don't know what sensor and image processor that is being used, the closest I can find is for the old A77 which had a 12MP sensor (and a max of 1080p60). Many 4k action camera around this price point cannot actually obtain true 3840x2160, rather they take a 2880x1260 image, or something like that, and interpolate it to 3840x2160. This leads to footage being more blurry than a true 3840x2160 video. Over on dashcamtalk's forum, there's a thread which talks about this concept, though no mention of Apeman, it does talk about similarly priced products.

At least with the Yi Lite, they provide the sensor and image processor so it is possible to double check whether or not the camera can actually obtain those figures. Given that I can't find the sensor and image processor used by this updated A77... I really wouldn't trust it at all. If they used good sensor and image processor they would definitely state it.

Another thing to look at is the accessories that you get. Generally more accessories means a cheaper and less capable camera.
