Great price just what I was looking for to match my other Yi cameras

Question: How do people provide power to these external cameras please? I assume its powered by usb cable too? Thanks
Would be great if these could be powered by POE

Well they would need an ethernet socket for that, and as they don't... Although I agree PoE and wired ethernet would be the way to go.

Why? Can’t you can get adapter to convert back from PoE to the USB plug?

OP, thanks, great find for an excellent camera that rarely comes on offer.

Awesome price, have purchased one from Amazon UK 2 days ago, so will order this and return for a refund, saving me £20.

Can vouch for these cameras, good build quality, easy setup and notifications are good on motion too

Cheers OP. Was intending on going Nest outdoor for a new house but will give this a go instead. Fingers crossed they add Google Assistant integration in the future.
Thanks o
i'm presuming the power supply will be the Euro version.
So for the total novice, how ARE these powered?
If its anything like the internal version, they're powered with a mini usb lead from a psu similar to the apple phone charger. It says supplied with 10ft lead.

Looks like they're USB > Mains powered. So you'll need a socket nearby or an extension cable.

I prefer POE myself.
Cheers OP, took the plunge and ordered one. Having some work done on the house at the moment so I'll ask nicely if they can put this up for me.

They are powered by a usb. You can connect to mains with a usb plug.

Yes
The only issue with this is that the hole required will need to be big enough for USB plug to pass through as the other end is not removable from the camera.

Looks like there is a design fault to these 1st generation ones. YT suggest if you install in an exposed location to wind & rain, you need to seal the front 2 holes with sealant or water ingress will occur resulting in failure. Audio appears to be poor anyway. Might be better to install the cable coiled up in junction box for power.

How have people installed these? I'm aware the USB connector is rather huge. Have people drilled a massive whole in their wall and if so, how have you gone about it?

Need a camera like this due to 4 burglaries in the last month.

If you have a drill capable of drilling through masonry/bricks you can put a suitably sized hole through a wall to pass the cable through. It may prove easier to drill a hole through a wooden door/window frame or the plastic door/window frame. One the cable is through the hole you can fill up the gap with a suitable filler for either wood or bricks so that water doesn’t creep in.

The cable seem fairly flat rather than round. Therefore you could experiment first with routing the cable out of a window or door way, assuming the window or door can still close properly

Thanks a lot. Which have you decided to do?
The largest part of the cable is the moulded USB A connector on the end of the cable, so you need a 14mm hole

Rather than drilling a huge hole, you could cut the USB cable in two and pass the cable through a smallhole and then rejoin the 4 wires inside the USB cable. It is a relatively easy job to do and there are videos on YouTube. I used a Rolson Automatic Wire Stripper to strip the wires back andyou can pick one up on Amazon for under £7.

Hmm yes, let’s all increase the safety of our homes by piping live feeds of it to random servers in China
I thought they were specifically the Xiaomi servers only?

The eu server is in Germany, can anyone confirm
Does the cloud subscription cover multiple cameras or will there be an additional cost for each camera?
Do these intergrate with IFITTT or whatever it is, so if it detected movement, it could fire off a light?

I've read the outdoor can comes with free 7-day motion recordings but there's a subscription option: yitechnology.com/yi-…oud

I can see these have tried to copy the styling of the outdoor Nest cam including the dummest feature of all the “please cut me” wire that hangs from the camera itself.
