Cheaper then Lenovo who've got it up for 900. Very good laptop according to reviews. No delivery until late January but with quidco (1.8%) it's a steal at £800.

From my research i7 is gonna be 6-7% better performance, but i5 is properly gonna run slightly cooler consuming less power. Laptops direct will ship in late january so your going to have to wait 4 weeks for it.
For me Its a question of how much do you want the extra warranty with JL and are you willing to wait for this to be delivered? I'd return it, because with quidco or which deal you could get this for 800. so if someone asked you would you take this laptop for £150 just for 4 weeks what would you say. (150 not 200 because i'd say the i7 is worth an extra 20-30 for performance and an extra 10-20 for resale value). I called Laptops Direct twice and both times got put through to someone straight away who were helpful so seems like quality customer service.
Hope this helps. Also this was £770 last night, when i called they said might go up or down, I got in a tad bit too late but even gold version was 760 and silver 800. Deal of the century that would have been.

Hi Dan,

Just a warning to you, I bought the silver 256gb i7 from John Lewis earlier in December. It looks beautiful, runs fast and the screen is exceptional. However, I couldn't get past the extremely annoying fan. I read so many reviews talking about the loud fan but decided to take a chance anyway - it really is loud to the point where as a university student i'd be embarrassed to take the laptop out in a lecture. Even when you don't have any programs open it will still whirl like crazy.

Also before purchasing I wish I knew about the touch screen. It only supports capacitive pens and not active pens. Luckily John Lewis let me return it (open-box), and I got a Surface Pro instead. Theres a day and night difference between the pens and touch screen input.

If you can get past the loud fan and touchscreen input, it is indeed a beautiful laptop with great specs.

Agree about the touchscreen, but there's bios upgrades available for the fan noise, there's a wonky driver with the network card that at times pushes cpu usage really, removing it worked for the few Ive seen try it.

Ah fair enough, I mean I'm sure the i5 would probably be better in terms of fan noise anyway, and I'm not sure if the performance would even be that much difference. i5, 4k and 256gb SSD at this price point is a good deal IMO, just not sure about the i7 for 999.
Had the i7 one of these and hated it. Hated the keyboard mostly but also it bugged me that it was weighted oddly, impossible to open with one hand. Went back to a SP4 as soon as I could.
Conflicting specs on Laptopsdirect.
Specs: i5-7200u,
13.9 inch screen
256GB, 8GB RAM, 4K touchscreen.

Unsure if it has the following: backlit keyboard, 1x USB 3.0 Type-C with Video-out, 1x USB 2.0 Type-C with Charging, 1x USB 3.0 with Always-on Charging, 1x Audio Combo Jack? (had to look on John Lewis for similar specced Yoga910 with 1080p screen)

these specs are a bit shocking on the website says no touchscreen for example, best shot is to chat and confirm or easier to search for part number. Hope this clears things up
Not a fan of Laptop direct but great price. Does JL or anywhere have same item in stock and willing to price match?

Thanks to you and NuckenFoob for your help.

Have decided to return the i7 and have a think on this deal.

Thanks once again
