just been in our local Sainsburys ( Tyne & Wear) and they have a set of dumbbells on a tree consisting of
2 x 1.1KG
2 x 2.3KG
2 x 4.5KG

This was reduced by 50% to £11.99

Not sure if this is nationwide though but hope its useful to someone.

Yeah. Just found that out. A mate and I live in different parts of Bristol, and so checked various stores nearest to us, but nothing.

We're both still after a cheap-ish set, so if anyone can recommend a decent set please let me know.

Hu? You shouldn't do weights till your 16! and good for anyone wanting to tone their muscles and not look like a prat. Voted cold anyway as these are out of stock within a 30 mile radius.

2 in stock at Dunfermline at the moment. Too far for me.

Far too light.

They say i will after weight

No stock at any of these locations.
Southampton West Quay
Southampton High Street
Totton
Eastleigh
Fareham Titchfield
Fareham West Street
Winchester
Gosport
Isle of Wight
Portsmouth

At the very best, they will be ok for beginners to work on gaining correct technique and for basic conditioning for most de-conditioned individuals. If you are serious about weight training, I would recommend staying away from vinyl and investing in some proper weights. If not Olympic size bars, weights and collars, at least get a metal set. Remember guys and girls, don't do too much too soon!

none in Wales

i bought the same kit from argos in the past paid about £15

So you think all the pro athletes, bodybuilders etc didn't start touching weights until they were 16, i don't think so.

That would mean you wouldn't even be able to do martial arts until your 16, considering push ups are the same as doing wieghts.

Good advice from Matrixblade.

Combined weight is around 7KG each, so you might get away with these if you're a part-timer doing the occasional concentration curls in between proper gym-sessions. But you might find yourself wanting more resistance rather quickly. I lapsed and now I've downgraded my curls in the gym from 10 to a wimpy 7.5, I need to get in there more than once a week!

And if you want muscle definition, lose the fat. Trim-to-tone and all that.

Excatly Nookster!

Tone up can only accur by having a low body fat percentage, not by doing light weights, thats is rubbish, that will only have an opposite effect by eating into your muscle. Always work your biceps to total failure!!

But these could be good for beginners, as it will help them gain a rhythm and control.:)

That link has nothing to do with anything relating to this thread.

But you're right about the idiots.

Argos - what a con.

They showed out of stock in all Argos's in my area too but as I was passing one today, I keyed in the code from the catalogue and they had two sets in stock at full price. It just seems like they dont want to sell them at the discounted rate so they say "out of stock" on the reserve and collect service.

Surely if there are some in stock then they should agree to sell them rather than pretend they are out of stock unless somone is willing to pay full price.

This strikes me as a very dodgy way of doing business.
