thats a quite good price for a bench that holds that much weight 200kg = 31 and a half stone most benches around that type of price range only go up to 18 stone

Hmmm, I could hang a few towels on that ;-)

...every piece of exercise equipment I ever buy seems to end up as a clothes airer...I must be too lazy I s'pose:-D

ive a got a york one similar to this, (had it for years now)

it says max weight 150kgs (incluing body weight) on it
and i put way more than that on it and its been fine

these will be well over engineered for safety reasons

anyway its woth looking on ebay locally , as there are bargains to be had on benches with lots of weights included

Its a well established make - but you are really better with wider rests for the weights - as the ones here will limit where you can grip the bar.

Also - you will get them for far less 'unused - second hand' from people who bought then then never used them.

Try...

A good point well made.

I suspect many of these benches will handle quite a signicant weight, in pure strength terms.

But load a bar up heavy, and:-

a) will it give you the confidence to be lifting it off and back on again
b) the position of the supports doesn't tend to be encouraging

The more weighty and expensive ones tend to have better position supports. Which is probably why the budget ones tend to be more compact - it's easier to make something more compact still easily strong enough.
