Also look around, as other york weights have been posted over the last couple of days, don't know which retailer, may have been argos too, as these may help you build a complete set. for more comprehensive training.

I'm afraid these weights are cheap for a reason. They are crap. The discs take up too much room on the barbell leaving the weight too low to do decent worth with. Spend a little more (say £50) and you'll get a much better set.

That said, weight for weight, its a good price.

Good price, but I hate plastic casing ones.

god these are awful. if anyones interested in the york bench and some light weights, i can stick them up for sale on here...

I have these and the discs slip around a bit, even when you tighten up the nuts fully.

Vinyl Weights Are Not That Good, But Metal Weights Are Alot More Expensive, Hmmm

It got 4.5 stars overall on argos based on 30 ratings so I thought it seemed pretty damn good.

This comes to under £1 per 1kg which I thought was really good....

25kg?

You will grow out of those in weeks, unless of course you use them for a week, and then quit, like 95% of those that buy stuff like this.

dont listen to most of these gym rats

first thing you want to do is find yourself a workout plan. and then work out how much weight you will need.

regardless, as a starter, and if you are casual about lifting weights - this is a good price

 Not sure about this. The only way youre gonna know how much weight you need is by trying the thing, not writing a workout on paper. However, i agree, this set is okay for beginners, but is grown out of very very quickly.

What else is a good idea to buy, I only have the dumbells atm, I try for every other day, 3 sets of about 10-12 x 12kg (in each hand) reps where you just lift them up. Any good websites anyone could recommend?

its a bit expensive compared to these weights- but powerhouse-fitness usually have decent deals on their bodymax range-which they have 20% off on now.

If youre a beginner and serious about training, then you need to invest in a squat rack, or get gym membership where theres a decent power cage and learn some basic exercises- deadlift, squat and bench. I would research mark rippetoe training program or if youre really really wanting to progress, the best training program for beginners is an old classic- bradley steiners hardgainer workout:

Concentration curls, Hack squats, lateral raises, thigh extensions, … Concentration curls, Hack squats, lateral raises, thigh extensions, triceps "kickback" movements, etc., all followed slavishly by thousands of misinformed bodybuilders, are a waste of time. My very bitter apologies to the high-pressure ad-men, and the authors of all the super Space-age courses, but their stuff is strictly form hunger. If you've been sucked into following any such routines, drop 'em! In all honesty, fellows, that garbage won't do a thing for you, aside from bringing discouragement and disillusionment. Save your time and money, and put your effort into THESE exercises:1. The Squat - Regular, parallel, breathing style, or front style2. The Press - Military or behind neck, seated or standing, barbell or heavy dumbbells3. Rowing - Bent over, barbell or dumbbells, one or two arm4. Power cleans and High pulls5. Bench pressing - barbell or heavy dumbbells, Incline or flat bench style6. Stiff-legged dead lifting and heavy barbell bendovers

These are decent weights for the price. Vinyl or Metal......they are both the same weight so it doesn't really matter.

I think the 50kg set is better value for money at £33 (I just sold the same set for this price on Ebay!)

]This looks useful...

If you care about saving space (maybe you don't have much storage space to keep them like me), don't want to be working with odd numbers and think you'll ever possibly grow out of this set if you'll ever even take this semi-seriously then get the cast iron set! Don't underestimate how quickly most people will outgrow this set!

I bought the cast iron set from Argos many years ago and they have lasted me all this time. I would go through phases of using them and stopping because I was too busy. I bought a 2x10KG pack and I just leave them on the barbells to avoid the hassle of having to swap all the weights over. And I'm a skinny guy!

I would go for ]these personally, much better in terms of quality as well

MY ADVICE IS NOT TO BUY THESE,
3 years ago I had these for about 2 weeks( I refounded them and upgraded to solid cast ones)
The plates are vinyl and take twice as much space. I Think 50kg is max you can put on the barbell cos its just a iron pipe, empty inside and it bends like crazy when you exercise)

The coralls are plastic, so very weak, and are missing a rubbers so often come undone after first 2 reps.

LOL, just noticed its only 25k,
dont even look at it, just buy this

+1 - add these to it if you need to: argos.co.uk/sta…htm
Gutted as I paid full price a few weeks ago. Reserved another set though as thats cheapest Ive seen it for a long time.

Dont bother with the Vinyl ones.

Great, I was going to ask if these 2x10kg are on sale as well.
I brought a set 2 years ago and now I need some more.

P.S.
My local tesco was doing 7.5kg plates for £6.50 ( I've brought 4 )

You should post that as a separate deal on here, that's a great price. Seen them going for more that that (£21.99) on ebay recently.

As other people have mentioned on here, if you're even semi-serious about working out 25kg will be out-grown very quickly, and the vinyl takes up too much space - pay the extra for the cast iron.

There you go: hotukdeals.com/ite…or-

Hot deal

These are rubbish. Will grow out of them really quick as 25kg is nothing and can't fit much weight on when using vinyl so not great when you progress. Check the cast iron dumbbells on offer for £24.99. Much better to start out and will serve well when you're stronger as can add lots more weight.
