The accuracy of these reports can be outlandish to say the least with false information, then it is a nightmare to get it corrected, can take months and lots of phone calls and emails. Then they tried to sell me a monthly plan.
In my case I had false entries by British Gas from Experian, I complained for months and eventaully took them to Financial Ombudsman Service, got it removed and paid £250 compensation. Yes lots of hassle for months but damage already done when I tried to apply for a current account.
The best part is CRA's think they are brilliant but the reality being large percentage of reports are full of false entries and they do not care.
CRS's do have a facility to correct within 24 hours but they never use it. (Ref: Channel 4 documentary) never take nonsense from these CRS's always take your case to the Financial Ombudsman Service, becuase it will cost them around £500 and maybe teach them a lesson.
I am amazed how they can be allowed to generate false reports and make money at someone elses expense.
Experian is a hideous American company, it could not careless and deserves to be closed down.

It was typo, thanks!
Thought this had been available at zero cost from all three for some time, or is there a recent improvement?
Genuine question. What do you gain by being able to see your own credit score?

It can help when taking out a mortgage or credit. It gives you an ideas of how high you are rated with credit. You would normally use if going through a mortgage advisor.
This isn't new has been the case for a while now simple google search with point it out
I suppose this post handy for people who don't know though

Can be useful for monitoring suspect activity, such as id fraud!
Very useful. I use all 3 and know they work

A lot such as i found accounts on there from vodafone, i have never been with vodafone.
Vodafone refused to remove the entry, they never showed up to court and were ordered to remove it as evidence clearly showed it was vodafones error.

So did you suspect something was amiss with your financial affairs, or was it just found looking because it was free to do so?

Did the Experian via MSE and was pleasantly surprised...is there usually much difference between the CRA's? I was hoping to leave it there rather than dig a bit more and not be so happy!

Not all lenders/creditors/banks report to the same agencies. Some report to all 3, some only 2.

There is no guarantee the information in free report, matches the Statuary information they hold about you.
The Free reports will only give you an idea, but they are pretty worthless. Barclaycard also do free experian.

Pay the £2 for each one once a year. It can now be done online.

Three times I have found massive errors in my statuary report (£2) yet not showed on the free one.

Equifax was quick to deal with it, however Call Credit was a nightmare. My case worker went on leave & there was no handover - I had to wait until she got back! Both times it took me to complain to FCA & the Ombudsman to sort it out.

The Experian one isn't a report, it's just a score, you have to pay to get a report.

The other two give you a full report for free. I use all 3 and find them very handy.

Great post OP, I would encourage everyone to keep monitoring what's on theirs.

In that case - whats then next best solution with the Experian one?

(Appreciate the information - wouldn't have known otherwise and would have wasted significant time).

Lib.
There is an irony here.

If MSE ever got hacked, then potentially your personal data is leaked on the net to commit ID fraud.

Read the privacy statement if you have any concerns before signing up.

Hot though, Experian is £15 a month for what MSE is giving for free
