young drivers insurance 17-25 Very cheap @ i-kube!!!

hello i've just been searching around for weeks looking for the cheapest insurance before i start driving to see if it's worth driving or not and i cam accross this
i-kube offers 40% less than any other insurance company... i got quoted £1800 instead of the £4456 that was my cheapest before.

the only catch is that you can't drive past 11pm but you can start driving at 5am and they install a gps tracking device in the car to monitor whether you are keeping to the rules but it's so worth it for young drivers

but yeah fantastic i think

All is dependent on age, sex, car; make, model, year, value, mileage, miles per year, location, garaged or not, too many variable to compare one persons to another.

£180 needs to be paid to get a box installed in your car, and then £45 every time you drive at night, oh dear!

Can you have named drivers on this though? No driving after 11pm is to stop people being silly and driving on empty roads being idiots.

Answered your own question...afraid the test don't do sensibility, only that you can basically operate a wheel and 3 pedals alongside a stick.

I have just signed up to a car lease scheme through my work mainly because my son can learn to drive this year and it was going to cost over £1200 to add him onto my car insurance. With the lease car I get a brand new car, full maintenance, breakdown cover, tax, and fully comp insurance for upto 5 drivers for £216 a month this is for the new Citroen C3 airdream+ on a 3 year contract.

I'd be amazed if the "up to 5 drivers" includes anyone under 21 (without paying an excess) and bloomin' gob-smacked if it covers learner drivers...

Yep I phoned up to check as long as I send a copy of my sons provisional licence they will cover him for no extra cost not even a fee to add him when he reaches 17. The excess if anyone under 21 has an accident is £500 but it was £400 on my current policy . It is a new scheme that my NHS trust have signed up for I think there are about 7 other NHS Trusts offering the same scheme.

I forgot to say the £216 includes the company car tax payment.

Where can you find what NHS Trusts offer this?

I work within the insurance fraud industry (FSA, FOS) , fronting is VERY VERY hard to prove... Trust me, you need to prove the named driver is driving the car more than the policyholder (HOW) , and also on top of that prove they meant to deceive the insurance company.

About 1/100 get done for fronting when they get reffered to me.

Trust me im a used car salesman, :-D

I went with this, cheapest I could get elsewhere was £3k fully comp on a 1.2 X reg corsa.

They offered me £2k, the tracker is included in the quote. Another insurance company told me to bite there arm off if they can offer me £2k

The customer service is awful though, other than that it's okay.

I am not sure but if you work for a Trust that offers it I think they would advertise it as a perk!? The scheme is offered by NHS Fleet solutions but your Trust has to be contracted with them

This may sound daft, but...have a look at getting some quotes for a land rover discovery, much cheaper to insure than 1.2 corsa of the same age at 17.

Taken from I-Kube site

■The representative will arrange for the GPS device to be fitted to your car by a qualified engineer. There is a box charge of £180 which covers the cost of installation. This fee will be included within your quote or premium.

Just taken this out for my son who is 18 & only passed his test last week. Average quote was £4500 (believe me when I tell you, I tried dozens of insurance companies) on a 52 plate Corsa sxi. Some quoted as much as £11000 & some wouldn't even insure him at all. Cost £2200 fully comp. I'm happy that he's not driving after 11pm, if he wants to go out at night he still can but at least he won't be tempted to have a drink & then drive home. He's earning his own no claims discount & once he has a couple of years driving experience, he can then get insurance using the traditional route. So what if he occasionally gets a bill for £45 if driving after 11pm is unavoidable! it's still a hell of a lot cheaper than £4500 & it's legal.

Change the car and you'd have got it cheaper still. And it's always a good idea to add a parent as a named driver when getting quotes, as this will often bring the quote down significantly, even if the parent never drives the car and/or has a policy which covers them to drive other cars.

Fair play then... I stand corrected!

All seems a bit much. Why not wait until you are older to drive?

Just a couple of points to the people saying be a named driver on your dads insurance, well yes if he drives a 1.2 corsa but not much good if he drives a 4.6 range rover sport!

Does anybody know how the little box of tricks works? If it's just a GPS unit with a logger then it's going to be very easy to fool it if you want to go out after 11pm without the charge. Also what if a full comp driver takes your car out after 11pm? Does it automatically bill you, if so drive it at night is not a problem as you just say you weren't driving at the time.

This is really cruel, not driving after 11pm.......what about the cruise on Saturday night?
I know you are all gonna slaughter me but I "fronted" my kids on hot hatches from 17, its their right of passage.
I did make sure it was all legal and up front and spent many an evening handing in docs at the local nick.
My elsdest had a Fiesta RS turbo before he started his driving lessons. ........go for it guys I know your gonna rip me to shreds but it still cost over 5k a year fully comp. which was a lot of dosh.

How is this is a bad deal? i don't mind paying 2000 for my first year of driving, the other quotes are above 4000, this is the cheapest insurance company for younger drivers

and it's illegal to add your carand yourself to your parents policy and when i checked to see how much that would be it was in the 3000 mark

My gf registered her car to her dad. He then insured it with her as a named driver (And she earns 'no claims bonus'), and pays £35 a month, with an excess fee of £250 should she claim. Shes only 21 and just passed a month ago.

Ultimate warrior, did they not hike the insurance once she had passed??
We had a seperate policy for my learner son ,just as you said, all details in mine and him named as a learner.
The day he passed I rang them and they said the policy was now void, if he drove he would be uninsured and made me stump up and extra £1000. That was on a 1.3 fiesta.

She only bought the car after she had passed. Its a 1.1 16v clio (51 plate). Waited for the details of the previous owner to be changed to hers, then changed them again and gave ownership of the car to her dad. Her dad is in his 60's though, I think his insurance is about £18 pcm on a 54 1.6 focus.

I'll find out who the policy is held with. I have a feeling it may be 'co-operative, but will confirm later.

OK if you live in town or on a good bus route, but I am so fed up of being a taxi service I can't wait till my son can drive himself.

could you get around this by saying someone over £25 was driving at the time and avoid the £45 charge?

Otherwise crazy cold. Not being able to drive past 11 is just cruel.

just had a look online - installation costs £250 and driving more than 100 metres abetween 11 and 5 costs £60!
