Agreed, there's really no way this can deserve any heat when it just looks like spam advertising for Experian, esp since this is not new either.

They need card details to establish your credit rating. Otherwise, how the hell do you think they will know who you are? Buffoon!

With your name, address and dob perhaps like everyone else does

The free score is very basic and basically just a number that doesn't seem very accurate. The main purpose of the site is to encourage you to apply for credit cards via your account so they can earn some commission. To see a detailed (any detail at all!) credit report you need to pay a monthly fee. I've probably decreased my rating since having this as it constantly suggests cards for me to apply to and says I'm already approved so I have gone ahead and accepted a couple of offers over Christmas and I think doing it this way you get a worse interest rate as my credit was showing really good yet they offered high rates!

I'm guessing it's pointless in some ways.
As mentioned above it's probably just a number that they show you that is not recognised by financial institutions, nor recognised by other credit reference agencies.
What's of more use is the actual credit report that you pay for as that shows your credit history and past searches.

I signed up a few months ago... yes it's free and yes you get your credit score but no advise on how to improve or any information on how they get the score. I need to know if an false CCJ is still showing up against me....wasn't useful at all

You do realise that those other financial institutions probably/more than likely, use Experian's data to make those decisions right?

It's the same data. You're just being presented your credit score number here. If you want anything else, then you need to sign up and pay.

So angry! Chill out. They could always use your details LIKE EVERYONE ELSE! Pretty normal question really. No need for that.

Any cash back deals?

THANK YOU!! This is SO much more useful than a random number plucked out of the air. Worth £2 any day. Confirmed I have no CCJ's on my record. YEAY!

I've used NOODLE for years.

Same thing available directly from barclaycard, just login to your account and activate your free experian credit score

I can only assume that most people here don't have a clue who Experian are. I guarantee they already have your personal information. They're not asking for it as a ploy or to sell. Yes, they sell your credit information - that's what they're there for. They're doing that whether you register to see your report or not.
