Zeiss Batis 135mm f2.8 Sony E Mount Lens £1099 @ UKdigital

For those who just look at specs or shoot brick walls; yes, it's very expensive for 'just' f2.8. For those who actually photograph real things, it's a properly outstanding piece of glass right from wide open (although I'm sure you already know that!).

With Zeiss' recent promotion, there's a number of great deals to be found on this, but this is the cheapest I've found by £50. Cheaper than any grey import, or any used one available anywhere.

A few other bits to mention;
-Double checked, UK Digital are a Zeiss authorised seller
-Free delivery
-0% finance available
-Extended 5 year warranty

I know this is the cheapest but still feel the FE mount manufacturers, especially Sony, are having a laugh at how gullible we are to keep paying these extortionate prices for the lenses and bodies.

I own an A7ii so not a canikon troll but am getting more and more frustrated by Sony’s ridiculous price points. Been with Sony since they took over Minolta. Had the a100, a55,a77, nex 5, nex6, nex7, variants of the nex5, a6000, etc.

Yes they’re great but they’re getting greedy
does this retailer still ship in boxes stuffed with old newspaper?

did amuse me when i got that years back - cashback etc was fine though but has a back bedroom shop feel

I think you have to compare apples with apples - you take a look at Canon's new glass, it's very closely priced to Sony's FE glass (Which is all new). Yes, it's still a little more, but Canon has to try and do something to keep it's customers..

Do Zeiss have monopoly over the Sony mount lenses?

Do Zeiss have monopoly over the Sony mount lenses?

There's quite a bit of context around it;
Sony Zeiss lenses - made by Sony, with input from Zeiss (coatings, designs etc)
Zeiss Batis - made by Zeiss, with AF technology licensed from Sony, to give native lens performance
Zeiss Otus/Loxia - Zeiss lenses, just like they are for any mount

There's obviously been a commercial agreement in place (Sony probably bunged them a load of cash to supplement their line up in the early days). Tamron/Sigma now see Sony E mount as commercial viable, as they've both just launched native lenses - the only reason why Zeiss seemingly have a 3rd party monopoly is because other parties held back to make sure they'll get an ROI from it.
Nice find OP.

I think it's worth noting, when you buy high quality glass like this, it will keep it's value better than more ordinary glass(providing it's well looked after). It's ironic, but you will save money, by spending more. For example, I recently sold a 21mm Zeiss Distagon which I bought used around 5 years ago. It sold for a few pounds less than what I paid for it, so I effectively rented a great lens for just a few quid.

Please post if you find a good deal on Zeiss Otus 28/1.4 or Sigma Art 14/1.8!

thats true if you buy second hand as you did
which is basically the same for everything

Buying second hand helps, certainly, but not the same for everything. DSLRs for example won't hold their price for long, even if bought used.
