Good luck to anyone buying ANY Zmodo product.

Over the past 2 years that I've had a Zmodo NVR system they've constantly pushed firmware updates to the recorder, in an effort to convert customers to their cloud offfering.

The email alerts stopped after the latest "forced" firmware update and their reason was that "nobody uses or needs email alerts" any more, going instead for mobile phone push alerts. In addition, LAN access (read "CCTV" access) was prevented and recording started to be encrypted, meaning they couldn't be downloaded and viewed away from the NVR

I was forced to obtain and install an older firmware - the original that was delivered with it - purely so I could restore the functionality I'd researched and give me access to the cameras via my LAN.

Seriously, check out their support forums. There are so many reports of systems that no longer work as described due to Zmodo's tinkering at the customers expense.

I bought this last July and it's been great, can view them from my phone when I'm out and about, had one system crash in that time for anyone looking for a basic cam set that's easy to install and use I can highly recommend!

I agree, I have one of the smaller zmodo cameras and over the past 18 months they have pushed a lot of updates which have all slowly taken away functionality that was originally available. I only haven't replaced it yet as it still just about covers my needs
I bought this system a while ago. All of a sudden I couldn't access it from my laptop - turned out it had done a firmware update without my permission and encrypted all the video streams.

I also lost the ability to stream into Linux Motion which was the primary reason I bought it - I complained to Zmodo who basically said "tough" - so I told them I was sending it back. They then sent me a firmware "downgrade" which bricked the unit. Needless to say it was sent back and I got a refund.

Read the forums before contemplating spending any money on *any* Zmodo product,

I have yet to find one though it is useful information. Previous prices are very good indications of future pricing.
Or were you attempting humour? You failed, plus your speelchecker is broked.

I would have agreed with you until I saw last week that the Hikvision "Professional" range is no longer available outside the trade.
They now offer a Dumbed down DIY installers range of products to compete with the likes of Swann etc.
Not good news!
I wonder how many of those buying this are also peoplecomplain about government intrusion in to their lives and how their privacy should be sacrosanct?

Just to confirm, the company which were treated so badly were use-ip.co.uk/hik…ion
The red banner at the top of the page takes you to the full story of how badly they were treated and how Hikvision will be releasing a new range of products downgraded to compete with the DIY sellers such as Swann.

What's the next best offering then?

I'm on the market now, but I have no idea what go for
No Idea mate! all I can say is drive slower so the little blighters don't smash into your paintwork so much that you need a pick and shovel to get 'em out!
Have to say... for the same amount of money I opted for the more flexible ip camera route.

you can get Sricam for around the £25 mark, and a Digoo NVR. Only "issue" was the NVR didn't come with a hdd, but I have lots kicking about so I put a 1TB drive in from an old sky box.

its worked perfectly so far
