“Lifetime”

This is not a viable business model. It makes no sense.
There is no Dana only Zool....z...
Unfortunately 'Lifetime' means until the company goes bust or gets taken over by another company. I have bought software before with 'lifetime' updates. The company then got taken over and the new owners said I had to pay from then on as my agreement was with the previous owners and not them.

Interesting, i do like the sound of it
Does sound good. Any one have experience of using this?
wtf is a zoolz and why do they think that name would inspire confidence in my storing personal information with them?

Is this the one where backing up is free but retrieving your data costs money and is slow?

Exactly. You could just about buy a 1TB harddrive for £24. So how do they make any money if they store and maintain your data for the next 50 years?

Yes, superb service and super fast for both the public cloud server integration and the business version. The apple side of certain stuff was very poor when they first started, eg: trying to get anything to backup to anywhere, was almost imposible to get working on any sort of sync.

Used to use their service for dlna syncing with plex, but for some reason it only seems to work with the big 3 recommended services on the plex website now, not that it's a big feature anyway!

For what they offer and how they offer it, it is very good, the encrypted web gui via chrome canary is superb and ultra secure, both ways. If if is of any interest, on the small home video storage streamer / sme / freelancers / business plan, your files have a recovery time of forever, for no extra charge like some of the others out there.

Start with the free 10gb one or the 14 day trial and see what you think, yes the prices are not the lowest in the marketplace, but for the few extra pounds you pay to use all the amazon aws features in the background, it is well worth the £

They likely do not care what others think of the name, but there are a lot worse brands out there in a similar industry, as for any "information" stored, it's encrypted both ways and you get your own generated personal key, bit like mega ((used to)) had in the early days, without it, there is no physical or backdoor way to even see the headers of the info compressed or anything you up, down or stream from their aws integration, they are also a founder partner in the atp board with amazon

This might help with your confidence levels a touch...

Their holding venture capital investors, think otherwise! Yes it normally would make no sense, but they have made their outlay back for services, hardware, software, development etc a long time ago. You can see this just by looking at how popular they have become over the last 5 years or so, compared to all the others that have tried the same and are now long gone!!!

No doubt the VC's have already modelled the profit point and have the "takeover" email ready to go.

A TB of glacier storage on AWS with no retrieval, costs about $4.10 per month - you can't store data indefinitely at this type of fixed cost and make money, the key is to kill the business before the £24 is burnt through.

Loads of examples of this model in Image hosting companies

Doubt it very much, their white paper from way back is the same model today, yes one of the big 3 might say hey how much, but there is no need to kill the business, they are very, very cash rich and have sort of outwitted a lot of the others, by not being greedy with the renewals or offers, only an opinion, but worth having a play free and waiting for one of their really crazy big TB deals to popup with unlimited access to the service

No jelly, there are no other rip off charges or small print fees, you just pay for your needed storage and use it!

No data or bandwidth retrieval charges, unless I have missed something very new!

Agreed, however for £24 as a backup for that hard drive and failure, with the security of multple mirrors of the same data with access anywhere the hard drive is not, think its fab value, I use gDrive mostly, but this service works with loads of sync apps etc etc
Based on AWS so it's secure, just not from prying 5eyes.

They don't at the moment. But they are using Amazon Glacier who do charge for retrieval. Zoolz are absorbing the cost atm. Also 5 hr retrievals.

The more u retrieve the more it will cost them. Cant see this business model working for long if the subs dont keep up. I suspect they hope u dont retrieve much or very often and hope new subs foot the bill.

and Zool is The Keymaster.
Hiding behind another company with dubious reviews about speed and they log your meta data, um think I'll pass.
Sorry if this has been discussed just quickly reading it at work. Can this work with Plex?

It’s only as secure as they make it. AWS operate a shared security responsibility model, so it will be this company’s responsibility to look after the data, and AWS look after the infrastructure.

Better than getting divorced ( you pay "cancellation fee") and married again (pay daily subscription again..)
£24 lottery ticket to see how long they can stay in business.

Zool was a game from the early 90's on the Commodore Amiga...I put so many hours into that!
Lifetime of the company.
I would personally never buy anything based on 'Lifetime' claims as there are no guarantees that it will or can be honoured.
Cant understand why people assume the word " Lifetime" refers to their human lifetime, like the company is going to fold the moment you pop it.

We assume lifetime to mean an extended period of time so this is a play on words that companies use to make a deal sound even more enticing.
Could be similar to tomtom lifetime map updates. Most of us thought free maps never need buy another sat nav again.
You can get 2TB for $44.95 (£33.32) through a StackSocial deal stacksocial.com/sal…2tb
Ordered
For those not sure about 'hot' and 'cold' storage, the guys over at CNET have provided this description, which was news to me and hopefully of help to others;

In fact, your 1TB allotment consists of 500GB of "hot" (meaning instant, Dropbox-like) storage and 500GB of "cold" storage -- the kind you use as a semipermanent archive. (Note, however, that it can take several hours to retrieve files from cold storage.)

Lifetime should mean lifetime. Otherwise we should be able to sue them for misleading information.
I purchased a lifetime cold storage when this company was called *sky something, they didn't last long. This company seems to have been around longer at least.

* I think this is the same company as the website was nearly the same as the old "sky something" company I was with, they even had a deal to migrate your storage to this company (zoolz) had to pay of course, so my lifetime storage didn't help there.

Pretty sure it was this : stacksocial.com/sal…n-2

Secure? Hahahaha. It's only as secure as the S3 bucket it's in.
