As luck would have it the Windows 8 consumer preview is out.

tomsguide.com/us/…tml

If it's anything like previous previews, it should give you a couple of months. It will certainly give you enough time to scrape together the cash for an OS.

Very good price for the system. Spend about £60 on an AMD 6670 and you've got a system you can game on too.

haha, sherlock holmes above me

Cant decide whether to get one of these or not. I would just hook it up to my TV.

Take care? No OS. Even better! Then it won't have crap nor bloatware pre-installed.

They are always this price..... not sure why its a deal.

Get a boxee: costs less, comes with a remote and will be smaller and less noisy.

Unfortunately I'd probably want to use it for other things aswell which the Boxee isn't capable of. Cheers though.

How does the processor in this compare to a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4ghz? (Which is what I currently have).

Thanks.

Q6600 would probably have the slight edge.

What would I need to whack in here to get this to an acceptable level for gaming?

Or would I be better off starting from scratch?

Old listing £219? This is £20 quid cheaper. Same company, but through ebay instead. Therefore I think it's justified.

Oh, and it's now expired.

Given the low power PSU on this thing a low power graphics card will be essential. The Radeon 6670/5670 should be acceptable, assuming you don't want to max out all the settings on a 24 inch monitor.

These things must be crap or not selling, its posted on HUKD every two weeks....

I know i will probably get destroyed for this question but how would i go about putting a 6670 in this machine? Thanks

I have a spare GT220 Video Card, would that work OK in this ?
How would this compare to an E5200 @ 2Ghz wit 2GB Ram ?
Thanks

Install Linux Mint for free and you won't need any other OS for it, plus it's all perfectly legal. It even comes with a free office suite that's more than good enough...

Looking for a cheap PC that will act as a Hyper-V server at home & have space for 4 x 1TB drives.
This may be the one,
May beed a SATA RAID card though.

It's very easy. Just pop the case off, and inside you'll see a spare slot that matches the shape of the graphics card (it'll be pretty obvious which one it is).

You'll just need to remove the metal cover that will be filling the hole on the back of the case where the connections will sit (along with all the rest of the connections at the back - it will either be screwed on or will just need pushing out with a bit of force), then gently but quite firmly the graphics card into the empty slot, making sure it looks like it's sitting correctly (you'll be able to tell by the connections at the back, they should be flush against the edge like the other ones).

That's it, only takes a few minutes. Some graphics card require you to connect a power lead, but the 6670 doesn't due to it's low power usage (hence why it's suitable for this setup).

Open it up, identify the PCI-e x 16 slot and slot it in.

Look at a couple of guides like this
uk.gamespot.com/fea…16/

The 6670 specifies a 400w+ power supply so you'll need to confirm that too. Perhaps check the comments or ask on Ebuyer.

Hmm didn't notice that - although I have seen many reports of it running fine on a 300W machine.

I got one of these Zoostorm machines from eBuyer for my Dad before Christmas and put a 5670 in it (I think that was 300W PSU) - so I can confirm they work at least.

It keeps getting posted because it goes in and out of stock...because they sell a lot on Ebuyer and this is not on Ebuyer so yes another post.

And I have put an OS on one for a friend and they are not crap.

It is noisy though.

Im running a 6850 in a Dell vostro with a 300w psu with the 6 pin power connector coming of a sata cable. And I have not had a problem.

How does the processor in this compare to my AMD Phenom x4 9650, anyone know - I'm useless at this kind of thing!

Anything better than the 6670 that would still be compatible with this considering the power limitation?

Would this be ok for photoshop, hd video editing and tv? I'm running a very basic old Dell desktop at the mo so anything's gonna be a step up performance wise!

How much to upgrade the psu and possibly motherboard (to something more futureproof) and is this usb2 or 3?

I know I can't build my own for this price but would I maybe better off spending a little more, say £300 or so into components and putting together my own machine? I'm a noob at this so can anyone recommend a good forum where people could give me some pointers?

Yaaay....another Linux Mint user. It's excellent. The easiest to use of all the Linux distros and the least scary for anyone switching from Windows.

If you were going to upgrade the PSU and motherboard then you may as well just build your own, it wouldn't be cost effective otherwise.

I don't do any of the things you mention any more, but I would imagine this system would be fine with a decent graphics card added to it. I think you'd struggle without adding one though.

Currently running a 5 year old Dell with a celeron 2.66 and 1gb ram. At the time it was low spec (cheap )
I don't keep up with hardware changes so have no idea what the specs mean
I presume it is low spec as it is cheap? I also imagine it will blow the doors off my current pc?

Any pointers to picking up Windows at a reasonable price?

Thanks.
