What about skyrim - or would I need to install a graphics card?

If so could somebody kindly recommend an appropriate one to upgrade this machine?

You would need a graphics card, but the PSU supplied is pretty cheap and not the best quality

I would get something low powered like GTX 750 TI, GTX 960 or 1060 (depending on budget)

No you wouldn't. You couldn't run it on high but it would work and why recommend a 1060 that nearly costs as much as the entire PC and would require a different PSU.

Bottom line, it can run Minecraft fine, Skyrim on low settings but you'll be pushing it and if you're getting into the realms of PC gaming it's best to save up a bit more.

I play GTA 5 on the 4170 and 4gb ram. Of course not on high settings but it plays just fine at 1080.

Sorry to crash the post but my son wants a gaming pc for Xmas and I haven't got a clue. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks.

What games does he want to play on it?

As above, and what sort of budget are you looking at.

How does this compare to
AMD Athlone II x2 250 processor, 3000 Mhz

I'm thinking about buying a new hard drive but it may make more sense just buying a new PC. I want a dual monitor, would this PC handle it?

I play a load of poker which isn't resource hungry but I use tracking software which is.

I3 is a better base set up pal

£400 budget - Minecraft, CS Go, TF2 etc.

Damn. Was just about to buy but out of stock.

Is there much of a difference between the 2 set ups? I'm just thinking the hard drive and monitor would be handy and would cost almost as much as this full PC. I'm OK butchering and building PC's (built my current set up from scratch) but know nothing about specs. My Holdem Manager (HEM) software lags at times, I think the motherboard or processor would fix that but no point replacing like for like. I've a SSD running Windows + HEM but it's filling quickly and why I need a separate hard drive.

He plays cs go a lot but have no clue what else as he says our pc is no good for some of the games he wanted. Ideally budget is around £300??

Ideally you need to double that. Look here some examples. Of course, you could build them for cheaper.

You already have a PC? What parts have you in it? It could reduce your price if you were able to use some of the parts. Also you have a monitor?

It could be a simple case of just needing to add a graphics card to your current PC. Nobody can tell you what's needed without knowing what your current set up is, including what games your son wants to play. For modern games £300 is quite low, for new parts.

From what i can find the monitor is AOC E2250SWDN.
Good spec for the price.

Any good to hook up to my NAS and leave on to use as a plex server? Max 2 plex streams at a time. Also be running programmes such as couchpotato, sickbeard etc.

Surely more than enough? My god awful Celeron N2815 laptop can stream 1080p HEVC to the Nvidia Shield.
Plex annoys me a little as the computer will not go to sleep with it open, anyone got a solution?

ive been told it needs minimum of i3 or i5 for transcoding two HD films. Currently run it off my laptop with an Intel B960 processor but it can get quite hot when streaming to two devices.
