Is this the same one that was 169.99 on eBuyer's eBay outlet a few weeks ago?

Pretty good value still.

Actually it's £20 more expensive than earlier this month:

Yes then the price shot up to £200 and now back to £190 so posted as still a good deal

The last time they dropped the price on eBay after a day or two so it might be worth holding back for the mo.

Cold been about this price or even chaper for ages.

I got one of these when it was £169.99 with free postage and IMO it is a cracking piece of kit for the price and it will take Windows XP but you will need a version with the service packs on ( a lot of the software I use is not compatible with Windows 7 and neither is my Epson R200 printer )

If that is the case then this deal should be voted hot after the massive increase in HDD prices.

HDD prices are dropping now - certainly compared to earlier this month, therefore cold for actually going up in price for the same spec.

Bear in mind the CPU they're selling is two generations old now with 800Mhz RAM and no onchip graphics.

This is very old stock clearance.

Nice to be able to buy a PC without the Microsoft tax

Can you use Linux and its myriad of different permutations on this?

How ironic GOONER(till i die) that your avatar should have a Red Devil, are you changing allegiance to MANURE(till you die)

I have this, very good it is. My only gripe is the fan sound as it is louder than my previous desktop (Acer).

Yes.

I know I'm gonna get some serious hate for this but; how do you/how easy is it to install an operating system - e.g. XP

Very very easy, as long as you know how to do it. Obvious eh?

Is it just a case of inserting XP CD, rebooting and following setup instructions?
I read somewhere that you may need motherboard drivers first if using a SATA HDD...

Anyone recommend a decent graphics card to go with this. The mainly for photo editing and dvd playback.

Be careful here. EBuyer are well known to offer a great deal, but will then cancel your order saying its out of stock. Happens very often. They were recently repremanded by the ASA for also posting fake reviews and/or hiding bad reviews. They arent the great company they appear to be.

They are also under investigation by Trading Standards for a mass-cockup in November where they ripped off thousands of customers.

My experiece of ebuyer has been very good. I bought this about 6 weeks ago on a Friday evening at about 8pm, it arrived on the Saturday morning at 10am. That is the quickest delivery I have ever had.

No problems with ebuyer from me.

The IDE mode should emulate SATA and allow XP to install fine, just use IDE mode not AHCI mode. (IDE means integrated drive electronics of which both PATA and SATA are, so IDE meaning PATA is a stupid nomenclature that we're stuck with) Older motherboards needed a driver for installation. This one shouldn't. XP is very old hat now. I'd be installing nothing less than Windows 7, since Win 7 supports IE10 which Vista won't. XP doesn't even support IE9, yes you can use other browsers, initially I didn't like Windows 7, but I now think it's the best OS than MS have created.

I've never had a bit of bother with eBuyer - the goods have arrived when expected and any returns have been promptly & efficiently handled. I cannot recall having had any orders cancelled.

It's not 800Mhz RAM. It's a 775 socket combined with DDR3... it's of the newer generation than your thinking.

It's an MSI board with a single 4GB Corsair 1333Mhz module.

The only naff thing about it is the PSU... which of course can be replaced when it goes pop. No way would you expect anything else at this price.

I've ordered two of these now for people and they're excellent value. Run Windows 7 flawlessly and is fully supported.

Regarding the "On chip" graphics. It doesn't really matter whether it's on the CPU itself or the motherboard. It has onboard graphics and you wont need to purchase another graphics card to get it to work.

Try Novatech!! With or without windows

Zoostorm are very good value in my experience, though you will want to upgrade the fan.

CPU is garbage, you could build a brand new Sandy Bridge build for this price
