CFX/SLI should die off eventually with DX12/Vulkan. No good for today I know.

but games would always be more and more demanding, sli would/should still work well on dx12/vulkan

DX12/Vulkan uses it's own multi-adapter feature. It should work independent of driver multi-GPU support (SLI/CFX).

I see what you mean now. So, would still take advantage of 2 gpu's or more whithout the need of SLI/CF correct?
but obviously that is still a bit far away

Yes, you could have an AMD and NVIDIA GPU and they should work together fine. It's a long way off and will games support it. We just don't know yet.
anyone know if the smaller designs affect performance at all?

SLI is crap, just like CF. If you have honestly suggested CF or SLI to someone, you have given them microstutters for life.
Price still to high, no overclock applied, heatsink looks bad, evga card look btr, and no stock.
dx12 is here it is the future of all gaming so in that regard your btr with a 470/480/490, that being said the 1060 is a gd chip is alittle faster and kicks ass in dx11 add to which it only uses around 110w, very impressive chip but NVidia fked it with there pricing again, they done all that work all that gd stuff then mess it up by being greedy, had this been £200 for the evga sc mini card I would no longer be looking at gpu's.

As it stands I'm back looking at amd based on the 256bit, 8gb, hardware async, vulkan/dx12 and of course the price, I will have to sacrifice the extra power savings of the 1060, but for a cheaper more future proof card.
U might want to update with new price 233.99
