Yeah this is the price they should have been when they came out. At least there is some downward movement from the £400 mark finally.

Still way out my price range

Managed to bag a 970 for £200 @Amazon warehouse - Used like new, just before xmas

Yeah still in the marketplace at a lower price for now if you are happy to wait till then.

Anyone know the performance hits this takes for being in a smaller form factor? It must take a hit somewhere or it would be the normal form factor or as standard be more expensive

It's still the same chip so at stock speeds it should perform exactly like a 'full size' 1070.
The longer cards obviously have better cooling however so you can expect lower temperatures and more OC'ing headroom (ASIC aside).

To be fair, form factor means little these days. I have a single GTX 1070 in my Aorus x5 laptop and get over 15k on firestrike (over 18k on pure graphics score).
