There was a pic but it won't show

prices slowly creeping down, nice. have some heat.

Buy it if you don't mind having to upgrade one year later. Nvidia want you to do this. They will only optimise drivers for latest gpus. Internet exploding with owners of last generation keplar cards realising nvidia are not supporting them. And some people have the audacity to say AMD produce bad drivers just because sometimes they have to wait a little longer for specific drivers. Its not a touch on the games nvidia play.

If people want some proof read here:

These are GTX70-0 series owners hoping and praying Nvidia release updated drivers not just for Witcher 3 but others too.
Then make your mind up.

980Ti is being released this week, also the 390x to be announced officially. Current card prices should drop to stay competitive.

They are supposed to be addressing this with a driver update. I completely agree that a 960 outperforming a 780, just shouldn't happen.

I'm hoping the 970/80's will drop a little once 980ti is out. Hopefully the rumours are true and it will appear at Computex next week and come out in the following days.

Source?

I'm still running a 670 and not had any problems until Witcher 3 which is clearly just unoptimised console trash as everything apart from character models looks like PS3 graphics.

I have a 970, game looks stunning. So to say it looks a few years old I'm guessing you are doing something wrong as it looks amazing for me

Oh here's the tool spouting garbage again, go on skoda, tell everyone how Nvidia have been lying to you and how much you're upset about it.

as soon as i saw the 970 deal i wondered if that loon would be in here , and he sure is

Good deal, voted hot

I'm looking to build a rig for the first time and it's a toss up between the R9 290x and now the GTX 970. Any tips on which card to go for?

Don't buy any right now if the 290x and 970 are in your budget. The 980 ti is being released very soon that may effect prices on both brands, and then we have the R3xx coming out next month which will effect things even more.
If that wasn't happening I'd probably buy the 970 as it has the free games and usually better driver support and feature support and SLI actually works on game releases, with crossfire you have to wait 4 months in some cases. (that's if you go SLI in the future).

Will be waiting for the 970 to drop down in price after the new gfx cards get released...

Both really good cards to be honest bud, both have pros and cons. The R9 has the heat/driver issues, the 970 with the 3.5GB which in all honesty is not a big problem as it is made out. You will max any game with both. I have the ASUS Strix 970 myself and it is awesome, the 2 free games swung me somewhat too. Can't really comment on the R9 but the 970 is a great card. You're best doing a little research before you dive in on the good and bad points of both

Of course AMD are still supporting their two-year-old GPUs. Those are still their latest GPUs.

Ah yeah I've also been told to wait it out by a mate. Though honestly I I don't see myself going SLI, in fact I don't think my mobo even supporters SLI (MSI Z97 Gaming 3)

You can multi-GPU. It will be PCI-E 8x 8x which is great

What type of comment is this? Nvidia owners should expect their cards to be supported for more than one and half years... It doesn't matter if they're the latest or not. Spending £200 every year is dumb.

Why would you buy a new graphics card just for a 5-10FPS increase
Wait a few years till your games run like trash, then upgrade and you'll get that sweet feeling of ultra high bliss you won't get otherwise
Oh and you'll save money

It's up to the buyer to decide whether spending that much every year is dumb. Some people spend a quarter of that on a night out, some prefer saving that-selling the gpu they have currently-then putting that money towards a new top end gpu.

People need to realise that not everyone is in the mid end market. Not everyone had a maximum budget of £250 every 5 years.

Kepler is literally 2 years old, not 5, yet isn't receiving driver optimizations any more. If you bought a Titan you're getting about 2 fps more than a gtx 960 or r9 285 because Nvidia want you to buy Maxwell.

wccftech.com/wit…ks/

So ofc it's stupid if you like any futureproofing at all, when Nvidia can't be bothered to support your card after 1.5 years. Unless you have money like rice and just chuck your cards in the bin as soon as the next gen gets released.

Got to agree that a £160 960 getting 2 fps off a Titan is pretty insane.

What's this talk of Nvidia not being bothered after 1 and half years? I had a 650Ti for over 2 years and never had an issue at all. Only upgraded this year. If the deal is not relevant to you why on earth are you here?

No. 780ti > 970. Except in games Nvidia haven't optimised.

People are reacting without understanding, I think.

Although not 'gimped', the 7 series / original titan cards are no longer receiving the quality updates that they should be. A card bought 2 years ago for over £1000 (titan), should not only be getting 2fps more than a £160 card (960) bought today.
