Someone buy my 970 GTX instead for £120 posted, kthx!
I read this doesn't have passive fans for anyone considering it for a HTPC

It's neither low-profile nor a single-slot GPU

Its low profile enough to fit into my mini-itx rig with ease.

By low profile do you mean short length?
it will easy fit into an itx for HTPC. I have a MSI gtx 1060 in my fractal design node. The MSI has passive fans so it's deadly silent.

'passive fans' - like they're there but they don't do anything?

HTPC's don't have to be low profile, nor do they all require a single slot GPU.

Yes, I'm aware of that, I'm just thinking of needs for my case
Don't waste your money they are all rubbish buy a 690gtx off ebay with over 3000 cuda cores and blow this thing out the water and keep in toe with a 1080
Sorry 690gtx 100 quid ish on ebay I ment to say

the deal posted is great, dont talk such nonsense. theirs no comparison to a 1080... that card is an age old, doesnt have enough vram for games from the last 2 to 3 years, its dual chil (sli) so its title dependant, generally problematic.

The MSIs Passive fans stay off until the card hits 40c I believe. So in a HTPC that never really gets that hot they stay off and silent. I have only heard them kick up when I was upscaling some content and messing around with MADVRs processing.

So the Zotacs fans will be on even when the card is idle and not doing anything. Thats fine in a gaming PC but in a HTPC when you require little to no noise its not great.

However I did vote hot on this deal as its a superb card for the money.

Why would you want this in an HTPC, isn't it a bit too powerful for just media decoding?

For your average grandma kodi user with a CRT TV yes its too powerful. However for anyone who values quality then no. AFAIK there are no ITX motherboards with built in HDMI 2.* needed to output UHD HDR 10bit at 60 FPS. There are hacked up versions of DP converters but they come with their own issues like not being able to bitstream audio.

So the easiest and future proof way I could figure out how to get all what I wanted at the time of building my HTPC was to stick a GTX 1060 in it. So now I can Upscale 1080 content using the amazing madvr and its fine for the lower / medium settings.

Picked up a used GTX 970 from Ebay for £108 delivered for my ITX build in the Tiny Silverstone SG13 case. Blower style so perfect for keeping the temperatures down in such a small case and no where near as noisy as people try and make out and only needs 1 6pin power lead.

Easy overclock to near enough GTX 1060 6GB speeds too.

You can pick up a used 3gb 1060 mini for about 30 quid more which urinates on these from a great height performance wise.

If you just need one for a HTPC, get a 1030. if you want to play games at decent setting and frame rates, get a used 970 or 1060

Same price @ Ebuyer too if this goes outta stock or you prefer Ebuyer.
