To those who are planning to buy this phone:

I have used this phone before, so an honest opinion -

    1. The phone looks gorgeous, and the build quality seems to be top notch.

    2. Selfie cam is below average, but is okay while making video calls. The rear cameras are good, though I prefer pics from my Pixel 7 Pro.

    3. Battery is awesome, the charge actually lasts a lot, and charges up really fast (box already contains the fast charging adapter).

    4. Software support is terrible - you get an update once every 3-4 months, and if there are any bugs, chances are you will have to live with that bug for 3-4 months.

    5. The UI (MyOS based on Android) itself is fine - if you are used to other Chinese brands, MyOS is similar to that.

    6. This is just for people who are into rooting or flashing custom ROMs - ZTE doesn't allow bootloader unlocking, so can't root/flash custom ROMs. (edited)

What sort of bugs have there been please? Software support on Motorola and Xiaomi has been shocking so I was looking at this brand and Oppo / OnePlus next.

Had this - did a review if anyone wants to watch it. The UI isnt the best, under display camera is poor quality and glitches every now and again so that it's not invisible. Performance was fine, cameras could of been better.
    Overall, was left abit dissappointed.

my last ZTE was the Blade!
    Good times with that.

We were a Blade family in the early days of smartphones

These specs are more than enough for most users including those who claim to be power users. Excellent value, in my opinion.

Never had an ZTE so what's the software like i.e. do notifications work etc? Someone said to me once you have ZTE you never go back, is that right?

It's a tempting price for sure! (edited)

It's not bad, there's a good review on GSMArena

    I can't see the 449 initial price? Only 479.

They still have the best DAC in business?

I've used a cheapie ZTE Blade (was my mum's phone at one point, it was reasonably good for its day), owned an Axon 7 for ages, then onto Huawei Mate 20X (much missed) and currently own an Axon 30 Ultra.

I think (compared to me having to download updates manually from ZTE Germany for the Axon 7!), the OTA updates are pretty regular (every few months is fine and I've updated the Axon 30 Ultra thread every time I got one - for the naysayers who say "ZTE never update their phones"). Most recent was 2 weeks ago.

Not noticed any significant bugs at all and the phone has been stable overall (the odd weird reboot now and then, but not enough for me to worry).

One thing which is probably specific to me, and I do miss, is Macro mode allowing you to use the torch alongside, which doesn't seem to be enabled on this phone, yet earlier phones I've had (as far as I remember) all had it!

Another bummer is the curved screen. I hate curved screens but I got the 12GB+256GB Axon 30 Ultra at such a steal of a price that I overlooked it. Buying (tempered glass) flat screen protectors encourages dirt to sneak in at each side and looks grotty after a while. Curved ones (I've purchased) don't adhere to the sides properly - makes using the edges a nightmare. I wish ZTE would sell a genuine (glass) screen protector and flip cover. It's a compromise between usability or grottiness. Think I'll just stock up on flat protectors!

Cool phone, but the Front facing camera is absoute garbage.

Does this phone have wi-fi calling as the phone signal is just about useless where I live?

ZTE is on the same path as Huawei. I worry about Google support and ability to take a abroad to countries which will ban sales soon

No it is not . They have no 5G technology which Uncle Sam does not have and wants to block. But they don't provide software updates so not an issue.

If only it was the Snapdragon 8 gen 1 plus SOC . So much difference in power consumption of plus model and non plus model of the SOC. This is made by Samsung, the Plus model of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is made by TSMC . I promised myself not to buy any SOC made by Samsung Foundry ( only TSMC ) (edited)
