Of course. That's the caveat. But this costs 130 quid more from carphone warehouse. How much is a warranty worth? Plus there may be Section 75 recourse if you pay by credit card. You pays yer money.....

You have 4months from purchase date to raise any claims with your credit card company. After that there is nothing they can do if Gearbest play hardball...but heat added as its a corker of a deal

So you've saved 130 quid and lost 8 months warranty. At the end of the day it's a personal judgement call. But at least the option is there.

Sobering thought time. You could buy this phone and a Xiaomi 4gb/64gb Redmi Note 4 for the money you would have to hand over to carphone warehouse just for this phone!!

Only weakness I see is the battery: 2705mAh.

That's poor

No idea where you got your information from. However it is incorrect, under S75 the credit card company is jointly and severely liable in exactly the same way as the supplier of the goods. Therefore you have exactly the same warranty rights.

When a 5.2" phone screen is 'mini'.

I purchased a phone from AliExpress in May. It arrived in June & stopped working in Sept.

AliExpress told me where to go.

Amex wrote to me yesterday to say nothing they can legally do after 120 days. I'll post an image of letter later

In that case as long as the purchase price was £100 or above, remind them of there obligation under s75 giving them 7 days to rectify the matter or you will commence county court action. If they still refuse, commence court action online.

Explains everything, Section 75 only applies to purchases of 100 quid or above, like this phone is. Sorted.

That's a chargeback scheme rather than section 75
thisismoney.co.uk/mon…tml
"You must claim through the chargeback scheme within 120 days of your purchase or payment for service. But there is no time limit with Section 75"

Section 75 requires order value of £100+ and also for there to be a direct link to the supplier. Since AliExpress act as intermediate between buyer and supplier, AliExpress orders aren't covered by S75, even if it was above £100. The same would apply for credit cards used via PayPal.
moneysavingexpert.com/cre…n75
"Although PayPal appears as the merchant on the cardholder's statement, it cannot be seen as the supplier in a debtor-creditor-supplier agreement under Section 75 because it merely acts as the payment intermediary by transferring the money from the buyer's account to the seller's account. Therefore it breaks that chain to be considered under Section 75."

Avoid all the headaches if things go wrong and buy from the UK or EU.

Xiaomi is making advances by launching the Mix 2 in Spain. Successful Chinese brands will make the move over here eventually.

Cheapest price for this phone SIM Free in the UK?

£189.97 or thereabouts. Shame this is a pre-order as the price is great it makes it hard to justify spending so much more but also waiting till next year for a needed phone would be painful

The point is that it's no where near the price in the UK / EU and if you read the informative posts about your consumer rights it's not a headache it's knowing your rights and what the process is, it's not hard!

I've been through a return on a China phone and ended up with my money back

I have read a few comments regarding the 3rd party payment intermediary breaking the obligation to s75 and my belief is that is wrong.

Therefore personally I would still issue a county court summons and let the judge give his interpretation on this. My argument would be in that case s75 can never apply as all retailers use a 3rd party to process card payments.

There are more stories on here about people losing their money than getting refunded..for eg gearbest refusing to take responsibility and then paypal not helping either.

Id love to try out the Mi Mix 2 but until it hits UK shelves id never part with that kind of money to chinese retailers.

Precisely. Which was my point to the poster. Is a warranty really worth 83 quid on a phone this price? Answer surely has to be no....doesn't it? And when you see what a pile of junk you can get for 107 quid in the UK....

Can I ask what the battery life is like for daily use? Any battery saving modes etc etc

To me it seems too low for the high specs it has to power.

Your feedback is gonna be very useful to me.

Thanks

I don't notice that the battery drains quickly, and always lasts the day. There are power saving modes yes.

No NFC?
