How good is it compared to DNS 320?

I stand corrected oO

Wish i'd got this instead of my linksys box... whoops!

will this natively stream movies (of any formats) to PS3 without a PC being on?

You sure the max capacity isn't 4TB?

That's what it says in the Spec Summary and what Amazon says about the same model.

It may have GigE but don't expect GigE performance with such a slow processor (ARM926EJ-S rev 5 (v5l) 183 BogoMIPS) oO

This was answered in one of the DNS320 threads

this link has some tech information about nsa-221 … this link has some tech information about nsa-221 http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/expired-deals/1046102/NSA221 is built with 370MHz Oxford 810DSE CPU,256MB DDRII SDRAM and 4MB NOR flash128MB NAND flash controlleDNS 320 CPU 800 MHz Marvell 88F6281 (Kirkwood)RAM 128 MBUSB 1 USB2.0 Port (front)LAN Marvell 88E1118R-NNC1Cooling Speed controlled 40mm fan ? (verifying)Kernel 2.6.22.18 ?Samba 3.2.8 ?C library gcc-4.2-glibc-2.5?so in theory DNS 320 should be powerful than nsa221.....

so is this any good for basic family needs? i.e. streaming movies and files to tv, ps3 etc & storing files centrally?

or would i be better spending a little more?:)

this is fine

I've wondered for some time... with these 2-bay NAS drives, can you set them up so that one drive is a clone/backup of the other?

Yes it does exactly that

Yes..

How do these handle hd/720/1080 does anyone know, thanks.

certainly cheap but no print server?

I need something faster than my LinkStation as I'm sick of waiting minutes for a 1GB file to transfer to form the NAS, but seems like this only manages 50-90Mbps.

What is RAID 0 & 1.
Does this stream wirelessly?

1080P is perfect over ethernet - no issues at all.

are there any recommended drives to go with this, or just get any on offer? And are they seen as 2 seperate drives, or 1 entity on the network?

Tempted but I'm worried about the noise (30.8 dB >35.9 dB).
It will probably be louder than my PC

RAID is a feature used to give you the option of putting data across drives in one of many ways called RAID levels, each level offering different features and benefits.
RID 0 can give you better performance and/or additional storage but no failure protection (or redundancy as it's called)
RAID 1 writes your stuff identically to multiple drives giving you a mirrored copy

The unit won't stream/share wirelessly, that would be done by the router. You connect this with a cable to the router and it's the router that provides the wireless functionality (assuming the router has wireless)

i know this can stream direct to a ps3 but how about the humble 360?

I see it has USB's would this work as an external HD for example aswell as a NAS.
I wish to connect it to my network (RJ45) and use the USB to connect it to my TV so I can play films etc.

I assume this does BitTorrent. Any chance it will be capable of Usenet?

If you mean connect this directly to th telly then it's not clear if it will work. will certinaly work for external drives and cameras etc. If you mean connect a USB drive to the Zyxel then stream to your TV (assuming the telly has the functionality) then yes

My TV doesnt have DLNA, - I was hoping that I could use the NAS aswell as plug the USB into my TV.

Do you know of any other device where this will work.

Dont see why you cannot install sabnzbdplus onto it, assuming it has python support.

Doesn't say in the specifications on there website but listed just under the Hardrive compatible list there is a small list of compatible printers so looks like it may work

Will these run squeezebox? Looking for a NAS to supply my recently purchased SB Radio.

Sorry. Says it does in OP.(_;)

Just to pick up on this point, sabnzbd isn't really designed to run well on this spec. Alternatively I'd suggest you try nzbget; it's written in C++ so should perform better. Nzbget is in the optware feed which, according to nas-tweaks.net, can be installed on fun_plug capable devices like this.

I think this deal is now interesting: dabs.com/basket

NAS + 2TB HDD for cheaper than the HDD on it's own.

Link doesnt work - just shows empty basket... what HDs and what price?

Got mine on Friday - put two 500 GB drives in and installed the latest firmware

yes transfer speeds are not the quicked - 250GB of music took over 6 hours to transfer but obce its there sharing is easy and not so painful

runs very quietly and streams music to my Roku Soundbridge well using the itunes server

all in all a good NAS box for teh money
