They are pretty reasonable on Ebuyer right now.

Is this the 'best bang for buck' model? Bit new into NAS, mainly going to be using it for home storage. Probably not even going to raid it, use one as data one as media centre (if thats possible).

Not bad, considering the CPU speed and memory. I've had QNAP, D-Link and, now, Synology NAS units. Never experienced a Zyxel.

Trouble is, once you've experienced Synology DSM, everything else looks half-baked.

This is a good price for someone wanting local backup and the flexibility of network access though. Heated.

Makes a great ALARM box.

I've had one of these for a few months now, and I can't rate it highly enough. Mine currently serves as my NAS, my XBMC install (via RASPBMC's boot-from-NAS feature), my MySQL server, my TimeCapsule backup, my iTunes server and a number of other things. It's quick, quiet and very configurable.

I use two 3TB WD Red drives in mine.

it'll be interesting to see if xpenology can be installed on this..best of both worlds then

Something like this is tempting, currently got a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo that is shocking in terms of reliability for connection and transfer speeds. Tempted to just bite the bullet and get one of these and sell the other.

I got free next day delivery on it as well! Thanks OP, heat added

How easy is it to set up Sabnzbd, sickbeard etc on the Zyxel?

Does Any one know if this support Plex media?

was looking at drobos for my photo library, but at £650 a pop, this might be worth looking into..

The Microserver is an altogether more flexible unit.

I agree with an earlier post though, if you're going down the NAS route then Synology wins, otherwise I'd stick with the Microserver, you can do a lot more with it than any NAS box.

@DE4L3R - You can use Polkast app with this Zyxel for sure, not sure about microserver.

Does anyone know if you can backup to an online cloud with this for extra protection? Such as Amazon S3 or Mozy?

It has dropbox integration afaik..

Almost tempted to replace my iomega ix2 but it isn't that old yet.

How does this compare to the NSA-320 which is £56 at Amazon?

Agreed, I have a ReadyNAS Duo2 v2 and a NV+ v2 and both are very slow and unreliable. I am tempted as well.

How do you use it as an itunes server? Do you store your music on the NAS, install itunes on your laptop, and point itunes to look at the NAS? I have a small ssd in my laptop, so Im looking for something to store all my music and films on, preferably not having to physically connect an external harddrive each time I want to play media. Thanks

Had 1 of these for a few months now from ebuyer..there are the dogs dangles for the price. banged in 2 wd green 1.5tb drives and running mysql server for my htpc xbmc and raspberry xbmc devices. havent looked into itunes server yet but just looks like it you point it to your music on and the nas and serves it up in itunes looks pretty simple to me ..polkast is brilliant for accessing media on the go..it transfers pretty fast via ftp but not quite as quick as more exspensive units qnap..etc but i aint in a rush..! Power function is also good mine shuts down late night and starts again in morning...all i can say is if you want a decent nas that does a lot for ur money then you cant go wrong..also you can do some modding with a usb stick and some software but not bothered with playing with it as mines set up doing what i need
.for now :-D

I got one of these the last time they were at this price. I'm impressed with it, and it does what I need. Polkast streaming, Squeezebox server, backups, remote access. I wasn't ready to pay the price for a Synology, so figured this would give me what I need.

It has better CPU ( 1.6 Ghz vs 1.2 Ghz), SATA3 ports, 1 USB 3.0. In terms of software, interface, etc is pretty much the same.
It is good if you stream full HD content to multiple devices simultaneously but otherwise the 320 will do the job. Also if you don't need 2 disks I would recommend the NSA 310 which is cheaper and does the same job as NSA320. I have 2 NSA 310 ( for redundancy) with fun_plug installed and had no problems for two years streaming, torrenting, etc.

Looks like these will take 4Tb drives too!!
According to Zytel

Great little box - you can easily install serviio on it, which is a great addition if you want to stream video to multiple devices:

forum.serviio.org/vie…933

One word of caution though, the fan at the back of the device is always on, and in mine at least is quite audible. So it's not suitable for a living room environment unless you don't mind the noise of a small wind turbine in your ear!

I don't think the dropbox integration is backup to the cloud. instead anything you drop in a specified folder in drop box is pulled on to the nas
at least that's how it is with the 320.
shame really as it makes it a poor feature

I think this is just a pull from a designated dropbox folder. that's what it does on the nsa 320

Can my PS3 play movies saved on the server directly? Say, if I was to save mkvs or other file formats to the NAS server, what would I need for my PS3 to play?

At the moment my computer is used to stream to PS3 via PS3 media server.

Polkast works on Windows, Mac and there's a Linux Beta. So it works on the Microserver depending on which OS you are using. It also works on the following mobile operating systems > Android, and IOS and on the Kindle Fire.

Anyone successfully installed sabnzbd on it?
How does it handle unraring files etc - does it struggle due to lack of ram etc?

Is it possible to copy 1 file from the nas on to a usb stick somehow?

Not a perfect answer, but my Synology DS110j unrars files without a hiccup and that's only 128MB and 800Mhz cpu (not sure of the architecture on this one but I imagine it's a lot quicker..)

how does this compare in noise level to the other makes? I am looking for a NAS but it needs to be as quiet as can be.

This is a great NAS for the price. Not as good as a Synology but its way way cheaper so can't really be compared.

I don't understand how all the comments are positive about this NAS...I just bought one last week and have been struggling to set it up. It keeps giving an error "NAS is not responding. Please check on it". Reading forums a lot of people have experienced this...apparently the NSA325 you get either works or it doesn't! So it's pot luck I'm afraid. I'm in the process of sending mine back for a "repair" which will take up to 8 weeks! If this NAS did what it said it does out the box then I'd be extremely happy. But now I've experienced this fault, how do I know my data will be safe on the NAS. I really do like the Synology NAS units (got a couple at work)...easy to set up and very reliable. So if in 8 weeks time my "repaired" NSA325 isn't any better then I think I'll rather spend a bit more and get a Synology.

Why are you sending it back for repair? Send it back and ask for a refund as it was dead on arrival

Actually you're right...thanks for the kick...gonna push for refund instead.

Mate of mine at work saw my NSA325 when it was delivered last friday, and yesterday I saw he'd ordered one too (it was sitting under his desk). These have great potential if they work. Just disappointed I got a duff one. Anyone else had issues with their NSA325 or NSA320?

Noise level for me seems very low. Only annoying thing is the blindingly bright blue power LED. Needs a piece of matt sellotape over it to diffuse it a bit.

having ordered one, and read its features, I assume it is capable of doing this and more. The NAS can act as a media server to stream content to PS3 or directly to TV too if attached to a DLNA compliant TV.
