Only one question.

do these actually work?

I have 3 rooms in my house where the router cannot reach.
and a further 2 rooms where 1 of the laptops cannot be other wise it will constantly disconnect.

Are they really as simple as just plug & play?

£18.41 as you have to include postage

yes, it just involves pressing buttons I.e. 10+ seconds to reset. press 2 seconds to join a network.

you can get ones that have built in WiFi.

Great price for this speed.

Yes they do work and very well too.

How much speed do you lose vs having it wired to the modem/router?

very good price for those speeds - heat

Yes, they're one of the best inventions ever. I bought all kinds of things in an attempt to get WiFi to reach my desktop PC in the back room - then I discovered that these things existed and I've never looked back. It's the next best thing to running Ethernet cables through your walls.
Couple of suggestions though - unless you have a spare wall socket, go for some pass through ones (they have plus sockets on the front so you don't lose a socket - this is useful as they don't like extension leads, especially not if they have surge protection), and if you want WiFi in the other room you can get ones with a built in wireless extender which will be far easier to set up than adding a router in access point mode at one end.

It will depend on various things like your router, the model of powerline adapter and the wiring in your house, but in most cases it won't be a noticeable difference unless you measure it precisely - it's effectively like running an Ethernet cable through the house so in theory there's only minor losses in speed due to overheads and distance, but if your house wiring is old or complicated you might get lots of interference. My best advice there would be to get a cheap pair (like these) and see how it goes. That's what I did, and I've just bought my third set at £50!

A reasonable amount. I would get 25/30mbps as opposed to 100mbps over Ethernet. Of course much depends on the age of your wiring, the distance, number of circuits, whether they're on the same circuit etc etc

But you only pay it once, or near as damn it. I bought 4 sets and postage was only £3.49, so really only about 90p a set for me

Yes they are. You need one adapter plugged in to the electric by your router and you connect it to your router with the ethernet cable that will be supplied. That puts the signal into your wiring from your router. You can then have practically as many as you like plugged in elsewhere to get the signal out again and into whatever kit you can connect an ethernet cable to.

In theory the homeplug standard means you should be able to mix and match, but either way that only have a single ethernet port. Personally, given that these are gigabit ports, I would just buy 2 sets (I just bought 4 and I already have a number of TP Link plugs, but none of them are gigabit ports)

oh, GOD, no no
