a 2p sausage! That must be worse than what McDs pass off as food

I'm also glad you don't shop at Asda. I have a feeling your negativity would turn the milk sour as soon as you entered the store:)

Surely at 2p it's going to be full of unmentionables? Euch.

Have you been to a McDonalds and eaten the food?

Have you looked at the website to find out the ingredients?

Sausages are bad anyway, all the left over **** from the carcass, brains, gristle, eyes, etc etc.

Can sometimes be lips, pits and butts

Butchers' made in shop can be great though and made without additives.

Why would you touch it... I always look at the meat content!

Yeah but I care about my food.

I love sausages - even raw ones and cold cooked ones - always have been a weird child - lol

Quick reality check. These cost 16p for 8, Richmonds cost £1.74 for 8. Meat content : 35%/41%. Which on that basis is the better deal? Both are ***** imho, but i'd go for the 16p ones if I had to.....

When this first came out...

The days when no-one cared about what was in the food...

The days before huge supermarkets...

The days before sausages were made for taste and not for profit and to rip off the shopper...

You do know that A) You choose what you buy and B) The other supermarkets probably have the exact same sausage in a different package? :whistling:

What do you get for £10?

Suppose you're right there. They are mostly full of water and salt anyway though right?

Haggis, yum.

Bacon, yum.

Sausage, depends on brand.

On topic I don't think I'd ever buy a 2p sausage, I'm sure even the staff get paid slightly better.

Butchers near me are so over priced but taste so much better mind.

This weeks was:-

2 types of Potatoes (lots), cabbage, caulifour, lettuce, bunch of large spring onions, 3 beef tomatoes, punnet of tomatoes, bunch of asparugus, cucumber, 1 chilli, 1/2 red cabbage, 2 red onions, and 2 leeks.

as the saying goes - 'You get what you pay for' - and I think that says it all about a 2p sausage - marry a butcher then you will really know what happens to the meat and what goes in your sausage

Exactly. I had a pack of 50% sausages so for a test I oven cooked them. They were basically like cardboard after the water had gone. Nice and conker brown but no real texture etc. If you want a decent sausage/veg then supermarkets really aren't the place to go. Next time i'm passing an Asda I may buy a pack of these and run the same test. I expect the same sort of result though. Still edible if covered in onion gravy though I imagine

Probably spoil the taste of the onion gravy.

Don't know about that but the onion gravy would definitely cost more than the sausages

Gravy goes with any meal

Absolutely, I always ask my butcher to go easy on the pig butt when I get my sausages:w00t:

This could save me an absolute fortune on dog food though, how many do you think would be needed for a standard dog meal ?

Yes but tasty

Prefer mines slowly fried in a pan with some mushrooms - add that to toast, black pudding and a runny fried egg and you have my favourite meal.

The other thing to bear in mind is that the sausage costs more than 2p. Asda have admitted this is a short term promotion and is a loss leader ie they are making a loss from it. As the meat industry like to say "there is no such thing as an unhealthy food, just an unhealthy diet". Sausages are fine as long as you don't eat them all the time....

I thought about that...

We treat our dog to sausage sandwiches when we take him away with us to hotels for a weekend...

I think an entire meal would be too much for him and he may be ill...

But i would think my large dog would eat 5 packs (in one meal) £0.10 per day...

Which is cheap but not as healty for him as his food now...
