02 uk now offering free unlock to pay monthly & £14.97 for pay & go!

O2 have announced that it will allow its customers to unlock their iPhones at the end of their contracts, allowing them to use the smartphones on a different network.

Matthew Key, chairman and chief executive officer of 02 parent company Telef?a Europe, revealed to The Times that, "Once the iPhone becomes available on other UK networks, we will allow O2 customers to unlock their iPhones, although of course they will still need to honour any outstanding contract period they have. At the end of their contract period, they are entirely free to move to another operator - though naturally we hope they won't want to!"

O2 customers wishing to leave the network must call customer services to have their handset unlocked. The service will be free of charge for those whose contracts have come to an end.

For a fee of £14.97, iPhone Pay & Go customers can also unlock their phones, providing they have had them over 12 months.
