    10.5kw Electric Shower Required

We are getting quotes for installation of a 10.5kw electric shower, and wondered if anyone knows of any deals for the shower unit.

We have an emmersion heater in the airing cupboard next to the bathroom, and the cold water is mains fed, we are on economy 7.
So hope i'm right in thinking that a 10.5kw electric shower is my best option for a powerful shower.

Any recommendations most welcome and will be repped.

    Thanks for your reply,

We are on economy 7, thus the emersion does heat up at night, but mainly due to disabilities we require a bath in the mornings which uses all that hot water.
At the moment we are having to 'boost' the emersion during the day for another bath, which is costing alot at the peak rate.
Our idea of thinking is that if we have an electric shower then we'll only be heating the water which we use, rather than another full tank.

TBH we've had one guy come round to quote on installation, and i did ask him if the electric shower is the most economical solution, but he didn't really know.

We've been thing of getting a shower for sometime and think i've probably over-complicated things as to which shower would be best for us, initial cost and running cost considered.

    HELP!!!!! LOL

B & Q are selling the Triton Cara Electric Shower White 10.5kw

EAN: 5012663015807 for £68. i bought one a month ago and its well worth the money.

HAVE JUST SEEN SAINTSCOUPLE POST AND ITS THE SAME ONE. THE HEAD IS NOT FIXED, IT SLIDES ON A CHROME TUBE.

Tritons are generally quite reliable. The one you spotted is very good too. All depends on your budget.

Thanks for for recommendation. Can you verify it only has one spray pattern, and what the power is like? Cheers

Yeah, I've heard good things about triton's and this one is in my budget. But i've heard better things about Mira, but they all seem well expensive.

    Rep to all.

Yes it does only have one spray pattern but it has plenty of power. Even with very cold water entering I only have it on low and no.6.

    Thanks again.
I think this model has to be the #1 contender.

this may be a daft question but do you come from st helens?

i had a triton years ago it was low kw cheap and great...we have one now in the kids bathroom-its utter rubbish. My friend has a mira and the o/h has been to fix it(12months old) its suffering from scale so the water wont heat. It isnt serviceable so mira say and its just out of warranty...
partner says as 10.5 will need thicker cable so more cost involved...it can be as much as £150 just fo cable fitting then plumbing on top.
If you are disabled have you thought of contacting social services as they have adapted my friends and fitted a shower etc...all tiling done free.

    Hi,

We're actually in sunny Southampton :-D

Unfortuantely we are not able to get any financial support as a bath is adequate, which i do agree.

Fortunately we had an extractor fan recently fitted, due to condensation problems, and the wall where the shower is to be situated, is tiled to the ceiling.

We are council tenants and in the last 2 weeks we've had problems with the emersion heater (ever since they put a new one in). 1st problem was the thermostat, which we were told are a cheap type and prone to failure every 6-7 weeks - but that's the type the council have decided to supply so we'll just have to keep calling them out. The 2nd problem was a failed switch.
Whilst we are on the priorty list for repairs, having an electric shower will ensure we can have a hot wash when needed.

We had someone out for a quote this morning (electrics & plumbing) which was £190 all in including sign-off, which i've been told by someone is a good quote. We have a couple more people due round early this week.

The Triton shower seems the best buy for the price, especially when i can use the 10% off voucher in the booklet promotion they have on at the moment. So far it's looking that the cost of a 10.5kw electric shower with installation is going to be aprox £250 which seems very good.

    Thanks for your post

sorry he cant help you ...hpe you get it all sorted soon

    Thanks,

I've registered my email with them as it states money off vouchers, so i'll see what comes through my inbox.
The one at b&q would be £10 less and doesn't require the additional delivery charge. Though the one you mention is on the triton website, whilst there is no entry for the cara...as if it doesn't exist?...strange.
Mind you i think their website is designed for trade only, as the stockist list in my area are trade only.

Their website does give some good pre-installation advice i.e for a 10.5kw electric shower it requires a minimum 11 litre per minute flow rate....just checked mine and got 11 litres in under 30 seconds lol so should be fine there ;-)

I've just found that plumb world are on ebay, and auctioning a couple of ivory 10.5kw's. I'll keep an eye on them - you never know i may get lucky. 1 went recently for £59. Their negative feedback seems to be more or less directed at the courier firm.

I noticed stocks of the Cara were running very low in my local area, so took the plunge and purchased it today for £61.20.
1 site visit left, planned for this evening, then it's all systems go.
Cheapest quote is still £190, but that includes a plumber and sparky arriving together, parts, vat, and cat p sign off.

good to hear its all sorted !

    Cheers for the pointer.
We haven't opened the box, so could take it back for a refund, and then buy it again for an additional £6.80 saving.
I was getting concerned as stocks were getting low, and it's the silver savers 10% off day tomorrow.

TBH, I'm not sure if we will do it, as when we advertised the installation on my hammer we estimated the cost at £150, and the contractor who quoted £190 has agreed, this evening, to meet us halfway at £170.

Still, if i'm fit enough i may make the effort
