Recently bought myself a full hd led lcd tv, capable of 1080p and has a refresh rate of 200hz (47") it has built in freeview hd but the best picture quality I can get is (576i 50hz) is this normal and is 1080p only achievable with a sky/virgin/freesat box. I tried bbc channels but they're all the same @ 576i.

I thought Freeview HD was in 720p ?

You'll get full 1080p from Blu Ray, don't know what Sky and Virgin use, sorry...

No broadcaster transmits higher than 50hz, the TV should ramp that up to 200hz if it can. Al that means is it build the picture more times a second, but most people can't see the difference.

1080i Sky.

I believe Sky is 1080i not 1080p. I don't know of any broadcast that is 1080p. Only way to achieve that would be blu-ray (not sure about streams or downloads).

You can download Blu Ray rips at 1080p, but you'd need a high speed connection (or lots of time) and something to play them from that can take .mkv files. . .

Virgin is 1080i too, no UK provider broadcasts in 1080p yet.

sky broadcasts in 720p so you wont be seeing 1080 from them, it will just be upscaled by your tv or dvd player, not sure about freeview hd i would have thought the same 720 but not sure.

Last i heard they were broadcasting in 720 only too.

No broadcaster in the UK outputs at 1080p. The most is 1080i.

Model is LG 47LE8900

Due to transponder bandwidth Sky can only broadcast in 1080i - then again HD quality between the various channels are very different

a normal Blu Ray movie is 40 MBps, Sky is around 18 Mbps ITV HD is 11 Mbps and BBC HD is 9Mbps

It's def a freeview hd then.. Maybe you are not in an Freeview HD area and so it reverts to SD coverage.
