10k for car insurance? That sound about right for a 3.0tdi Audi A5?

21 year old, had license since 18. No speeding tickets ever or anything else for that matter. I know it's not a small car but I mean be reasonable at least. My friend owns a golf r32 at 22 years old and pays just under 2k. Mines 5 times that oO. It's so frustrating, how about they put age limiters on these damn cars.

Sounds about right, it'll keep my premiums down as a 37 year old git!

Only kidding...rip off. You tried putting an older named driver on? Mum or Dad maybe.

My cousin was 22 at the time when he got insured on his range rover vogue but he was paying 4k

A few years ago, i tried to get insurance on a 1.6 astra worth £1000 on a clean license that i had for many years. Cheapest quote 4.5k. Excess was about £2200. Let me remind you, the car was a 1.6 w worth £1000. Almost like they are tempting you to drive without insurance.

Was told by my driving instructor of parents who stumped up £12k a year to insure their kid's Subaru Imprezza. If you can't afford the £10k, how about something a bit more sensible? Might be worth trying old Luxo Barges in the insurance quotes like Mercs, BMW's etc (if this is the sort of thing you're looking for). Less cool driving an old car but if older with same BHP per tonne = cheaper insurance....

The amount your car is worth is not relevant. You're being insured in case you smash into a £100K Lamborghini and the insurance has to pay the other side for their repair. Of course they will wriggle out of it if that ever does happen.

Do you have a new A5? If you can afford an A5 surely you can afford the insurance on it?

Seems a bit high to me. Around 5K would seem right - remember to put your dads name on it as an additional driver and mum if possible, brings price down alot.

Putting my dad as the second driver, dropped the price by about 1k and putting him as the main driver which means I'd get no ncb's dropped the price to 7.5k. These quotes I recieved are from moneysupermarket and gocompare.

Well I've just had an email from moneysupermarket and now they offer the insurance for 1.8k and that's with an excess of 1 grand and a compulsory of 3 grand.

If the Law was to change Tomorrow & the new law was that you did not need to insure your car if you had say a minimum of £30,000 in the bank then I bet these Insurance company's prices would tumble. The way I see it is they have everyone by the nuts knowing that by Law they have to have insurance unlike things like house insurance etc.

drive with no insurance (not really) but its a £200 fine and 6 points thats alot cheaper lmao

being serious though for 10k to insure, petrol for a year. servicing, mot, tax, general repairs.must be cheaper to pay someone to drive you everywhere for the year hell ill do it.

haha that's exactly what my brother is doing.

You just have to make sure that the car that you are driving is insured for at least 1 person to drive (preferably the oldest/most experienced driver so the premium will be cheap) that way when police cars stop behind you or randomly check your registration number - it will show as "INSURED" on their screens. Otherwise it will say "NO INSURANCE"

    Trust me, I know

Although uninsured drivers, and policy fronting, are one of the big causes of high premiums in the first place.

And you think that's amusing do you? I just hope that when he wraps it around a lamp post, no one else is injured.

Um, I can reassure you that he doesn't use it for "fast & furious" purposes. and what's "no one else is injured" supposed to mean?

If anyone else is injured, they can sue the sh1t out of him, on top of him being prosecuted by the police. Does not make a difference if he was insured or not, 3rd parties can sue and win what ever the insurance circumstances.

And yes, I think it's hysterically amusing.

Rich enough to pay potentially millions of pounds, but not rich enough to afford insurance. Highly amusing.

My partner is a copper and believe me, if he stops you and thinks there's a HINT that you may not be doing everything by the book, he will check everything. If it turns out you don't have insurance, he'll have your car taken away and crushed. However, before he gets it taken away, he'll be checking your tyre depth, tax, MOT status, breathalyse you and anything he can to check you out. Low tyre depth = 3 points. Lets hope you don't have four low tyres = 12 points - add that to your lack of insurance and there goes your license!
Everyone he works with thinks exactly the same way so if you think all you'll get is a fine and some points, think again!

Have you got a quote for a 2.0 tdi A5? A remapped 2.0 will feel just as torquey as the 3.0 and will be easier run.

This prompted me to check some quote, I don't have a car at the moment but am planning on buying a new one soon, was surprised my quotes were quite low, had my licence for a year and a half, 1 year no claims but getting under £1000 for a 2.0 golf 54 plate Thought it would be more like £1600+

Prices are high for a reason though, I don't mind paying through the nose, I know it should come down eventually!!

Why would you want an A5 at 21 ?? Get something smaller that you can throw about and rag - get a golf or 328 or something - Wouldnt pay over 2k for your first year !!

By the time you declare the modification to the insurer it will cost more though. Without declaring the modification, you are technically uninsured.
