I don't know much about Sharia law, but if this is what it leads to then surely it shouldn't be allowed in the UK

sick!

Somalia

It's amazing how some cultures repress women and are barbaric. The problem being it's not politically correct to critize as it's their way of life.

Utterly barbaric, an appalling act of religious misogyny.

o.O that is horrible!

I've seen footage of a stoning under conviction similar to this and it was the most savage and barbaric form of treatment I'd ever seen.

If this is what some peoples 'God' wants them to do then I'm glad I dont follow any religion that condones it.

I like the last line of "The BBC had a reporter in the area, but he was shot dead in Kismayo in June." They way they kind of write it so trivally when I don't remember hearing about it at the time. It is almost an excuse for the BBC not to give more info on the story!

4 male witnesses are needed to prove that a rape occured; the onus is on the lady proving her innocence because she is known as the 'eve' who seduced 'adam'. the punishment is not for the tempted but the temptress. that is their justification ... mind you the sharia law is different from region to region so it would be TOTALLY UNFAIR to say this is what islam is about.

These people are inhuman.Nuke the middle east NOW!

Oh, come on.

1) They're not inhuman. Just uncivilised. What is civility? The power to resist our animal urges and to do unto others as we would have done unto us. Where does civility come from? Learning. Cultural evolution. Exactly what Amnesty International is working towards.

2) Note how when I say "They're", I mean the people doing the stoning. When you say "nuke the Middle East", you're talking about all Arabs. This is racist. It's also kind-of harsh, since the people responsible for this incident are based in Africa. Clue's in the URL.

In some ways, you and the barbarians there are the same. I mean it in the sense, anyway, that you both seem to display attitudes that are outdated and wrong in modern society. Cool thing about humans though, is we can evolve. The stoners can learn to be better people by considering that it's maybe not that nice to stone people that've been raped to death, you can learn to be a better person by not lowering yourself with gross generalisations. Bad can't be undone, but the future gets better. Yay that.

Oh the poor girl, what she went through in her short life!

Take it you'll not be having anything to do with Christmas then, being as it is associated with a relgion which advocates killing people that eat shellfish? Check out Leviticus.

Bloody Morons - what happened to common sense?

this'll end badly (the thread)

I know it is there way of life but there are some really awful things go on in countries. I really couldn't stand there and see that happen to another human being.

Another person replying to a thread which proves they dont think before they type? Middle East is all Muslims so basically wipr out all the Muslims, that can be seen as "Racist" cant it? These threads dont last long as all people say say Islam the religion is wrong and racial arguments arrupt!!! Like many have said this was in Africa so my friend think before you type, yeah??????

Sharia law is different in different countries and some groups may claim they have followed Sharia law when it is not correct but the media being the media will blow this context out of propotion and blam the Muslims as they have been doing!!

Its bad what has happended to the girl and people again are assuming that all Muslims are the same!!

I didn't know Sharia law was being practised in the UK (in reference to the OP), am I mistaken?

There is currently a campaign to run Sharia law alongside British law in this country, I assume that is what they were referring to.

Completely unworkable though, obviously...

I read about this in the paper - it made me feel sick to the pit of my stomach.

there might be some aspects of the sharia law which they can use but obviously nothing which will conflict with the british law.

Adultery

Did you read the link?

Convicting a girl of 13 for adultery would be illegal under Islamic law.

I think what was trying to be achieved was to set up Sharia Councils who would oversee less extreme punishment cases under Sharia law in the UK, although not officially recongnised to replace established laws in UK (English, Scottish etc) and criminal legislative acts. The Councils were allegedly to be set up in various areas around the UK to deal with Marriage issues, disputes etc.

Nope. I read this story at the weekend.

Basically we dont know what she really did, or how old she really was, but we are happy to condemn those who lay down the laws of the country she was happily living in.

Sharia Law will never officialy co-exist in the UK with current laws, full stop.

See this is where the chinese whispers happen, whilst the BBC reported as if everyone had spokent to amnesty international, other reports say they found out from a local reporter, who found out from her father.
