160GB Internal Hard Drive almost full (only 9% capacity left) - what are my best options?

Nearly 100gb is music, photos and videos (incl. iTunes) - can I move these to an external drive? Or should external drives only be used to backup data?

I've recently intstalled a 640gb External Drive, but Im unsure if I should just move everything to here or not?

Ideally I want to free up space on my internal drive.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

    Delete porn.

    I would:

    1. make partitions on your external. at least 2 one for data, the other for media (movies, photo, etc).

    2. move the media from internal

    3. do no 1 to internal HD

That's what I did but I have the external drive connected all the time so that I can access them whenever I want.

Install a second HD, or buy an external HD and transfer over all none essential data on your existing HD to your new external HD.

I would copy and paste then delete. But only delete after you've checked everything has transfered OK.

If I copy and paste my entire iTunes folder into the external drive, how do I direct iTunes to that drive?

Not sure as I don't use iTunes. I would imagine though that iTunes would recognize the external HD. As I can't say for sure (hopefully someone will) I would transfer just one tune then try that. I use WMP and it works fine with mp3's that I have on my external storage thingys.

Burn them onto 21 dual layer disks, and quit being bone idle.

Firstly I'd recommend a free program called Spacemonger which does a very good job mapping out your hard drive space and showing it visually - you may find you've a large temp file or something you've forgotten which is taking up large amounts of space.

The second recommendation I'd make for copying your data to the external drive is another free program from Microsoft called Synctoy which as the name suggests synchronises between two folders. You can set it to do a one way copy from your internal drive to the external which when complete you can remove the version from your internal hard drive as you'll know it was copied properly.
