Sony's just announced a 160GB PlayStation 3, which will be released in Europe on October 31 - just in time for Halloween.

The massive PS3 SKU joins the 80GB version, which goes on sale this side of the pond on Friday, August 22 (that's this Friday), Sony has announced at its Leipzig conference.

The 160GB PS3 will go on sale for 449 Euros (£355) and the 80GB will retail for 399 Euros (£315), so no one's going to have excuse for not downloading copious amounts of download content.

Yup thats right. Me too

Still no PS2 compatibility, I was holding off in the hope that they would fix this and bring back the memory slots. Gonna wait until christmas to see what deals they will have out.

I don't think it's likely they will ever bring this model back, the stripped down models have done well with the mass market - they are following the same approach in the US now with the withdrawal of the current 80GB model (same as the PAL 60GB)

i stuck a 320gig in mine the other day, was a 60gig... only took 5 mins to change over, ( hour to back up and hour to instal ) all for £60

its only for the music vids and pvr but if you've got sky hd then u have this already so its a waste of money

i did that, i've now got all my mps'3 and avi's on my ps3 and have put the old hard drive into a external caddy and use it to transfer my files from my laptop to my ps3

Why do they insist on releasing a whole new version of the console just for a bigger hard drive? Why don't they just make the hard drive easy to replace, then people can just buy a bigger HD if they want, instead of being forced to buy a new console.

Think i just answered my own question there really, new console sale = more money for Sony lol.

Any ps3 owners will already know that the hard drive is very easy to replace. From a marketing point of view the larger HD looks good in comparison to other consoles.
