Found 11th Aug 2007
Hi, I am looking for a good buy on a flat screen monitor. I have no clue about what is good or not so good and would appreciate any best buys anyone knows of? It's to add to a laptop as a second screen.

*It's actually a 19" I am looking for not 17" as in the title*
Thanks

I have one of these, it is fantastic, rise and fall / swivel stand, highly recommended ;-)

It is £138+ at Amazon, so Play.com bargain.

Hi, Thanks to all for suggestions
After some research, I think I am going to go for this one:
ebuyer.com/UK/…205

It's a little bit dearer but has 850:1 contrast ratio and 5ms response. It is also height adjustable which many are not, and has 3 yr on-site warranty - all worth the extra few pounds methinks

Of course, if u know different......

It doesn't appear to have a DVI Connection ?? .. only VGA ??

It's a second screen for my laptop which only has a VGA port. I am told that since I only want it for spreadsheets etc not for games or dvd's then I probably wouldn't notice the difference anyway...true?

The Hanns G at Play.Com - Monitor also has a 3 year onsite warranty and has a rise and fall / swivel stand, it also has both VGA and DVI inputs, all for £99.99 delivered.

You do realise that a widescreen monitor is actually smaller than a like for like sized standard monitor.

Your choice though.;-)

Yes, I did like that one but the contrast ratio is 700:1 and 8ms v 850:1 and 5ms on Belinea. Researching what one should look for, 750+ CR and lower MS were mentioned which influenced my choice.

I am not 100% with u on the monitor like for like comment - would u mind expanding on that a little pls...preferably in idiot proof language ..lol

OK a screen is measured corner to corner, say bottom left to top right, so a widescreen 19" has less visible screen than a standard 19" screen, because the screen is stretched out sideways, so actually less visible screen.

Trust me, I have the £99.99 standard screen from Play.Com, it is superb, excellent value for money.

Hanns G Website confirms the 3 year onsite warranty.

Your choice.;-)
