2011 Specialized Allez (maybe double range) for £350. Sound about right price?

Hi guys I'm getting a second hand 2011 Specialized Allez (maybe double range) for £350. Does that sound like a good price? And what am I looking for in the bike to make sure it's a good one?

Looks like a good deal looking at shop prices

It's not a bad price and the allez normally gets brought up in any "What entry level bike", but it is just that, entry level.

If you get a chance to try one out in a shop it'd be worth your while. Any little niggle in terms of fit is going to hurt a lot after your big trip. You might be able to get a better deal if you look for a slightly older one (IE not 2011)

As someone also posted in your other post, consider the "bike to work" scheme. If your employer signs up you can get a bike -VAT & pre income tax (works out 1/3-1/2 cheaper)

If you don't fancy your local ads, have a look at the bike forums

bikeradar.com is a good place to start. Also singletrackworld.com mainly an off road forum, but a good number of cylclists have more than one bike...

Oh you're a genius. Can't thank you anymore. I'm a student but the bike forums you've shown me are fab.

This one I'm considering what do you think?

I've not looked at 2nd and bikes for a while, and your tastes are different than mine (I'm a retro fan all the way) however this looks to be a decent setup (esp. if you're a size 10 shoes). Other than the extra gubbins (Look clipless pedals and shoes probably worth £50-£100 new) its the same deal as before. In terms of satisfaction it's a decent bike / setup right, you could ask him where he's planning to get it serviced at, find the cost of this and see if he'll knock that off the price so you can get it done at your local bike shop? Obviously they might not go for it but...

Before you buy though, the Allez is a fairly popular bike, it'll be in a local bike shop somewhere near you, I strongly recommend you try one at at the size (56.5) he's selling to ensure its the right fit.
