3500 mile journey to a rubbish tip! Osprey LIVE STREAM OPENING 2PM Friday 30th September

A Maryland School, USA a few months back made some Boat Time Capsules and launched them into the Atlantic, each capsule was engraved with instructions that once found to take to the nearest primary or middle school as so it can be opened and then get back in contact with Maryland School. a great experiment and educational experince for all involved.

These were all handcrafted by the pupils over 6 months and then launched..

Well yesterday one of these capsules landed on a beach near Manorbier around the corner from myself.

a Gent who is well known for clearing up the beach down there and should be commended for all the work he does like that, found this capsule, but here is where it gets unbelieveable!

after taking photos and posting onto the local facebook page 'I Live In Pembrokeshire and Love It' about his find well he decides not to take it home, or place it in a safe place for later collection..

NO he places it on a rubbish pile he created and left it for the council to collect with the refuse!

Now I know he has done a good deed in collection of the rubbish but surely this does not excuse the stupidity of leaving it to be collected by the waste disposal guys,

now to make matters worse, a local school went down to the beach to collect it a couple of hours later, and.....

    ITS GONE!

there is now a mad race around Pembrokeshire to try and locate this capsule and get it to a school.

I have my fingers crossed that it will turn up that whoever has it now has some small amount of brain cells to realise this is not rubbish, and needs to be taken to the local school.

The person whom left the item, feels he did nothing wrong and of course anyone who critcises his decision is being attacked with comments about how wonderful he is for collecting the rubbish the first place.

Personally I cannot get around the fact that ZERO foresight has been used by this person and i certainly do not think that a good deed excuses someone from any responsibility.

What do you think? and lets hope it turns up.

Probably see's crap like this every single day being washed up and doubt he spends time reading anything as he would never get anything done.

    Leave him alone.

    I think that ships sailed.

This thread is a bit fishy

Good news - school gets kids into decent project
Good news - man finds project, takes photos
Bad news - the man does the most stupid thing possible
Good news - the project is back on track

Well for me that's a better news day than any other day - generally for the past few years it's mostly bad news with the odd good news

A bit like public annoucements, "Could all passengers report any suspicious items to the staff or police", not many people can be bothered or don't want to look a fool or want to waste time trying to find a staff member or whatever.

Isn't this time capsule too clean after days or months in the ocean, algae, barnacles, blah blah.

Yes, that's does not look rubbish at all, but I guess it is the picker's effort to do something with it.
1/ Take it back to depot
    2/ fill in a report
3/ manager has to do something out of process to contact LA education
4/ ~98 out of 100 times, school ignore phone call from an outsider (without even an acknowlegement or courtesy return call)

I think you're missing the point he isn't employed by anyone to clean the rubbish he does it off his own free will. si there was no depo or manager to sign off to.

so all he had to do was pick it up and take it to the closest primary school. not that I think he needed to be bothered to do that but it would have been good of him to do so. no calling a school either just pick it up and drop it off quite simple really unless it weighs a ton.
